decent affordable 22WMR bolts?

Any good 22WMR bolts these days for a few hundred bucks fellas? Im looking to offload my 223 as never use it and drop back to 22 WMR for small stuff. Went a long time without owning one. Feel free to list any models you rate decently. I cant afford anything near a thousand bucks though..

When I was a kid my WMR was the Stirling Model 1500M. The rifle was nice, virtually identical to the Model 15 in .22LR. But I found it lacking in accuracy (alongside the .222), and ammo was expensive so I rarely used it. Whether an old one would shoot better with modern ammo I don't know but it might be worth looking at an older rifle if you have a tight budget. And you might be able to try it out before buying it.

My neighbour has a Winchester Model 9422M he got as a kid, beautiful rifles but they can go as high as $2000 nowadays.

I was at a dealer last week that had a Ruger Model 96/22M lever-action in WMR. Very nice rifle that I would've grabbed if I had any interest in WMR, if it had been in .22LR I definitely would have grabbed it. I don't recall the price but I think it was around the thousand mark so way outside your budget.

If I were looking for a cheap WMR I'd probably hunt for a Norinco JW23, WMR version of the JW15 copy of the CZ/Brno. That dealer I was at had just received ten new Norinco JW15's that morning, but even those are now $600 I think, I was looking for a pair for my grandkids last year.

My markin dad gave me is wonderfully accurate with 30gn vmax style pills and they're usually relatively cheap

I can understand going to a rimfire from the grab the rifle and a pack of ammo and go shoot stuff and not worrying about picking up brass and reloading it.
I had a very accurate 17hmr with heaps of ammo and only sold it a year ago because there's no bunny's around here and still isn't.

About 0.60c for 22wmr
About 1.50 for 223.

Fair difference I guess.

thanks fellas, yeah regards the 223 I dont need the range and couldnt be bothered loading it down. Also with primers at what 20-25c each it eats into any savings to be made versus 22mag. I see the Savage 93 and B series rifles around the $600 mark, wonder if they are worth a look. I see Cleavers has ammo at 43c a shot, that will do fine

I'm not a fan of my CZ455; wont be buying another of them.
I've used it with all 3 barrels, and currently run it in the .22WMR mode, and it's okay, but just barely.
But it still has a few annoying quirks.
I also dont like the safety on them.
A lot of my niggles were fixed on the 457, but a new one would be out of the price range the OP indicated.

I like the look of the Ruger American Rimfire 18".
I dont mind the look of the Howa 1100, so I'd be interested to hear why they are considered crap.
Our Howa 1500 lives a hard life, and still delivers the goods...

I have a .223, and a .22WMR, and there are plenty times when I prefer the shorter range(and quieter) of the 22WMR.
A .22WMR capable of a decent grouping, I think is a pretty handy rifle.

I bought a 22 mag for the smaller stuff because my next rifle above that was 243 but I just don’t use it. It’s a stainless heavy barreled syn stock marlin made in 1984. I bought it second hand from qge .. it’s suppringly accurate I reckon it’s had bugger all use. I just bought a 223 I think it’s goin to get a ton of use.

Just checked what a second hand anschutz 22 mag is going for. Ranges from $250-$900 with a couple around $600. Feeding it 30gr Vmax ammo it will shoot exceptionally well and be good for rabbits and foxes to 135m. That would be my choice
