Newbie - advice on rimfire rifle in LEFT hand ?

Post by selaga » 09 Jun 2018, 1:14 pm

Greetings fellow shooters,

Didn't want to hijack the OP's thread here - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9991, lots of good advice there...

Similar requirement, budget up to $1500 but it has to have LEFT hand action.

Undecided on 22LR or 22WMR.

Strong preference on new unit. Target shooting (amateur) and small pest eradication.

Keen to hear what people think. LA101 high on my list, pity only comes in SYNTH stock in LH.

Cheers,

Sel

yeah, also Browning, Savage and a few others. i use the Savage in 22LR, just for blowing holes in paper and cheap too. Saves on the 243win costs.

I'd look at the LA101 if you want to do a bit more serious target work.

I have an LA101 left handed on the way
(have been waiting approx. 3 months and still don’t have an expected delivery date) if you want a different stock you can always get one made. It is quite a heavy rifle for a rim fire and front heavy due to the heavy barrel and light weight stock.
Is $1500 for rifle only, not including scope or scope included?
You can have a look on the second hand gun websites, most of them have a dedicated left hand section. A good second hand Anschutz or CZ would be a great option!

What about a Browning BL22 lever action, not left handed specific and you won't have to wait for it.

Thanks a lot for all suggestions. After ringing all Sydney dealers I settled on a Savage Mk II BTVLS due to finding one in stock in LEFT and being "slow" moving stock dealer gave me a very generous price. Was very keen on LA101 but no one could give me an ETA on new deliveries. Looks good in laminate/SS bull barell although thumb hole looks weird but sits nice in the hand. In 22LR.

Now need to get myself a CF in a left, will most likely be a TIKA/SAKO in the 6-6.5 mm range..

Im left handed also, but ive been told by numerous dealers its best to purchase right handed rifles as its easier to sell them. Also you limit the availability of rifles by only shopping for left handed. Ive been shooting right hand rifles down at the range on my left shoulder and have become accustomed to it.

All my rifles are lefties, my 22lr is a a Lithgow and it did take a while for it to come in and Im guesing with the recall issues Lithgow had with their centerfires it might take a while longer at the moment- its a bloody nice rifle, I dont particularily care about resale as I bought my rifles to keep -so Id rather be shooting more comfortably that worry about later down the track

I'm a lefty too but all my rifles are right hand. No big deal and doesn't really bother me.
