My Mrs just picked up a Browning TBolt, nice little riffle, its only had about 20 rnds through it, but I just put 6 shots into a 1/2 inch at 50m laying prone with a bipod and no rear rest (and very rushed as I left the liitle fella i side watching TV) Just another option to make thing even more difficult

If im ever stumped with a choice of two rifles that seem on par with one another i like to pick them up and shoulder each one to see what feels the most comfortable.
Wait untill the t1comes into your lgs, your decision might come down to weight, feel, length of pull etc.

Just to confuse you more, have you looked at old second hand proven stuff?
The most accurate rifle i own is a 1954 brno!

Also a mate of mine has an old single shot anschutz (not sure of the model) worth about $50 that shoots like a lazer.
Money doesnt necceaarily buy accuracy.

I'm definitely open to any and all out there when I go down a shoulder a few when my licence clears, I had a ball shooting a mates 1980 something Striling 22LR with open sights and they can be had with a 10 shot mag for about 50 bucks, 4/10 shots on a 4" plate at roughly 100 metres made me pretty happy with it. Seems like every few weeks there are 2nd hand 22lr's with a scope popping up at a few of the local gun shops, If a 452 American or similar pops up I'll probably get one of those as I've shouldered a couple and like the overall feel. I would love to support Australian Made but until I handle one I'm not sure how the extra weight will feel.

I havent been lucky enough to have a look at a tikka T1X, I look forward to finally having a look at one. I do however own a la101 in 22lr and can happily say that with out hesitation I would buy another it shoots really well and to date i havent had a problem with it at all. That being said I also like my tikka and sako rifles so im somewhat torn lol.

I think it’s fairly safe to say at this point that by far the biggest difference between two is the weight. Having personally felt a t1x (and owning a la101) the weight difference is rather significant. So given that fact, I know which one I’d take bush (the t1x) and I know which one I’d take to the range (the 101).
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

I had T1X on order for 3 months and when i rang to get an update on arrival i was told March 2019. I bought the Lithgow instead. Probably better supporting the local product anyway :)

Buy the one you find more aesthetically pleasing. You can split hairs here all day. The Lithgow is an excellent rifle. Judging by Tikka centrefires I'm sure the T1 will also be very good.
Most rifles easily outperform the shooter. These sort of questions are usually heavily biased by who is answering the question.
Just buy the one you like the look of.

Was talking to my local dealer today who told me the T1X has over 800 on back order. So I'd say March is about right as long as there's no recalls.

Yeah I'm probably leaning towards a second hand CZ or Sako, there's a few good options at my LGS, just need my licence to be processed etc. so I can get down there and shoulder a few!

Don't wait for your licence, drop into your local range as I did. Heaps of ppl are more than happy for you to shoulder theirs and even fire some rounds. That's how I tried the LA101 along with 50 rounds from a very generous member. Loved it and just ordered one.

Yeah that's on the menu when the Uni semester finishes in a fortnight, should have a weekend free to catch up with a mate down the local 50m range. I went out yesterday morning with a mate for a couple of hours and his old Stirling which is fun to shoot but is heavy and not the most accurate thing around, at 50m with open sights only got 4/10 shots on the bunny target we had, we also had a heap of fun with a bunch of clays set on the hill from 60-80 metres away and usually we got 3/10 shots on the clays so that was a good challenge.

I've had my T1X 17hmr twice at the range and its growing on me, Ive never owned a Tikka before and frankly swore I'd never own 1, not sure if its the trigger or the 17hmr round but its a fun gun, do rate. Bought a Meopta Meopro 3.5-10x44 RD 4C today , should geta run in the field shortly.

Yeah tupperware stock and oversized action for small cases, plenty of bits on em have failed over the years. Still dont like the stock but it is what it is lol

i do like the weight, full size stock, trigger and mag. The Tikka is also 0.5kg lighter than the equivalent Lithgow 17hmr so easier to handle

I didn't like the look of them until a friend bought a T3 in 22/250 and it shot in the two. Great triggers and the best barrels of any factory rifle. I had to get a couple and now find it hard to take my other rifles out hunting. If your rimfire is half as good you will be very happy.

Not far off crunch time when I can do down and shoulder a few. Seems like the 22lr T1X's are trickling in but I love the idea of buying an Aussie made Rifle.

Only the buyer, knowing their own financial situation can adjudge value... but one Q might be - How much is it worth to be able to take a rifle back if it’s not accurate or has an issue? Not so easy with a sh rifle if looking to save some $.
I have two .22’s - my latest, an older CZ with redfield scope cost me $500 and I wouldn’t swap it for the above brand new tikka...because I know it’s capabilities and idiosyncrasies...I want a reliable .22 that will hit a 5c piece at 50m and I’m not concerned about looks or fancy flare on what amounts to a simplistic bunny gun / plinker.

I have had both and had nothing but problems with the lithgow, but my t1x is perfect and it shoots more accurately than the lithgow and it feeds and ejects perfectly, and yet a friends lithgow works great, so I guess I got a dud 101

Re: Tikka T1X MTR or Lithgow La101...

Post by byadbo boy » 07 Jan 2019, 12:10 pm

I waited, and waited, AND WAITED for the T1X to come out before making the decision.
When the T1x FINALLY arrived at LGS , I was underwhelmed.
I am now the extremely happy owner of a LA101 in black..
Why ?- firstly the feel of the T1X .
It just feels light and cheap.
The plastic thread cap is cheap, the stock is cheap and when you give it a tap it sounds like if you drop it ( yipes!)
it would crack open. Having said all of this - I have not shot one to be fair ( T1X )
BUT - I got my Lithgow ( after a little arm twisting ) for under a thousand dollars.
I know how accurate they are - a couple of mates have them.
It felt- in my opinion at least - like it should have been $4-500 more !
great low maintenance cerakote, weaver bases, rifle weight and substance, and fit and finish of stock, lovely smooth action,
etc, etc.....
( I paid $70 more for a threaded LA101 22LR in black cerakote with synthetic stock than the T1X)
I have put approx. 600 rounds of various ammo through mine - It likes RWS in both HV & Sub,
and it also really likes federal premium.
I have only experienced a couple of minor feed issues.
The rifle groups beautifully- but I kinda knew it would.
In the end- these things always come down to choice- but I am annoyed with myself for procrastinating as I've just held up my
enjoyment of this great bit of kit by over twelve months.
One thing to consider - The Aussie dollar is s**t at the moment.
Thales ( Lithgow ) should do very, very well exporting Crossovers to Europe, US, etc when comparing to T1X in my opinion.
It also means for us that if a Tikka T1X is circa $900 here, then I am probably being a bit harsh because as they say,
you only get what you pay for !
