So I’ve ordered and paid for my bottom of the line a22 and am waiting on my license and the rifle to arrive to the LGS, anyone gotten there hands one one here yet? I see lots about the semi auto version but not the latching repeating version, curious about them.

Still waiting for mine (A17R) Was originally supposed to arrive "Early September" which was pushed to late September, then early October. Called LGS today they are saying next week, but not holding my breath.... Pretty pissed about it, but I still want one and cancelling it won't get it to me any quicker, I'm sure they know that too.

Managed to fondle one a few nights back at St Mary's, the overall look and feel was good. The bolt comes back on a ratchet which I guess allows the action to cycle reliably no matter if you're feeding it Standard or high velocity ammo. The lever release was quite firm, though I'd expect it to wear in with use over time. Not a bad package but if compared to the Ruger Precision Rimfire then I'd spend the extra $90 and buy the Ruger.

Yeah o shouldered the savage and it was just one of those times where it fits perfection every way, I’m so glad too because I pre ordered and paid for it, it hindsight that wasn’t very smart of me haha. When old mate cycled it, the first time was really really hard, by the end of it he didn’t struggle at all to do it so I assume they are able to wear in.

Hows everybody going with the a22? My misses has been asking what I want for Christmas for last couple weeks. I said a shotgun as a joke and she said ok. Was thinking of a straight pull 12guage, but probally wouldnt really use it. So I thought either a Browning lever 22 or marlin 39a or a savage a22. Only be used for bit of plinking at camp and maybe the odd hare. Cheers

My plastic arrived yesterday so I’ll be picking my 22 up tomorrow won’t have a chance to shoot it till Monday but I’ll be throwing the scope on and playing around with it heaps (no ammo even on the house) just one of those things I do when I get a new toy haha.

be keen to see how they actually work... considering its basically a semi auto with another trigger ?

I was actually wondering if the release lever got held back would the bolt return foward or does it need to be released and pulled back again. I doubt they would otherwise there is nothing to stop somebody from somehow locking the release lever back and having a make shift semi auto. But I'm still curious to find out

i was thinking more along the lines if the firing pin got stuck forward in the bolt face it would be like an open bolt semi auto...semi auto 22lrs being pretty grubby wouldnt be impossible

I handle 1 and I was left a little underwhelmed to say the least. These would want to be bloody cheap, like sub $500

Stock is super cheap, lever release required a damn lot of effort and the noise as the block slams forward was ridiculous and it just got worse.

WTF have done to the trigger ??? creepy as and inconsistent, probably the worst trigger Ive felt in a very long time.

I just picked mine up today, feels half decent for the price, can’t bore sight it though, plus got the wrong size rings with it for my scope.

I think I only want one more for the novelty of it. Same as those revolver carbine rifles. Ugly af, but would reckon would be pretty fun.

any danger of someone posting some photos of a field strip of the internals.. keen too see how the achieve the bolt release, i can guess...
smart move on savages part really not releasing the semi auto here.
think they could become a slick little rifle, couple of spare mags with cci stingers if it will run them, iron sites sounds like a good time

I only had a quick look when I first cleaned it but there’s two sets of catches, one is on the striker for the firing pin, when the striker is laying down it’s got 2 or 3 teeth and there’s another towards the middle of the receiver length ways, I’ll take some photos when I go to me old mans next, (he has a safe and I don’t) so my rifles love there.

So just got home today from the range and I’m impressed with the savage, I shot three different load through it Winchester power points, cci standard target and cci stingers, it likes the stinger a lot! Around half an inch at 50 metres, it probably could have done a little better with someone more skilled behind it.
I went through 100 rounds on two targets and at the end of it I shot two ribbons off the bottom of my target frame and the hit 5/6 zip ties holding the backing on, a few of the other shooters didn’t quite know what was going on at the end hahahaha. I really like this rifle!

I have the A22 in stainless with a Tasco TRS25 red dot. It’s an awesome fun little gun. Probably a little over priced.

Doesn’t like all ammo. Browning for some reason doesn’t always fire. CCI quiet doesn’t “blow back” enough ie won’t cycle. Loves Federal.

Lever does free up and can be cycled fast.

Dang, I picked mine up recently and the LGS assured me CCI quiet would cycle due to the multiple catches it has for different power ammo.

It's a bit of a pain to give a proper clean too. At least for me, a new gun owner. Whereas on the A22 semi-auto you can just pop the bolt out and clean it. On this gun once the bolts out, to get it back in requires you to remove the stock and trigger set before the bolt will slide back in. Without doing that the catch under the bolt that holds it back will stop it from going back in.

I got around to firing mine. All the ammo I tried cycled the bolt just fine, including CCI Quiet and Subsonics. The CCI Copper wouldnt feed half the time tho, the soft bullet kept getting caught up. None of the other rounds had any problem feeding.

IT was a bit windy and Ive never really shot much before but when trying to sight the rifle in I was having real issues. When standard velocity was hitting accuratly, then quiet and subsonic wasnt even on paper and vice versa. It could very well have been my ability and Ill get someone else to give it a shoot when I next go.

The RO at Belmont SSAA was a huge help for a complete newb like myself. Helped me get set up at the start, showed me how to adjust the scope and loaded a few mags for me so I could test the guns operation fully.

YOu have to give the bolt release lever a really good hard tug and the trigger is pretty heavy I think. \

All summed up tho I had a massive smile on my face while I was there.

Mate, you do realise that the subs are travelling a lot slower, so are hitting much lower down the target and vice versa when zeroing the subs - the cci’s will be a couple inches higher at 50 ? And also - don’t forget additional spin speed will have faster bullets to one side...

Yeah thanks mate. It was my first time shooting at that range and first rifle. I thoughyt I was shooting 25/50m, but it was actually 50/100m targets which accounts for the large drop at 100m(which I thought was 50m where there should have been much less.)

Its all sorted now.
