Hi all,

I'm buying a LA101, what's good ammo for targets or plinking?

I'm new to this game.

Thanks.

I honestly think you should go through the process of finding what it likes, as it’s an engaging and interesting process. Nevertheless try some SK ammo, particularly SK-SP. Alternatively try some Eley-Club. Or a little cheaper try some CCI-SV (that’s what I shoot through mine). Any Standard-velocity ammunition should be mechanically more accurate than super-sonic, but if you’re interested in hunting ammunition give the CCI-velocitors a look-in. In2.

CCI Minimags go well through my LA101, as does the ElleyHV 38gn.
You will have fun going through the process to see what your rifle likes.

I have had great results with lapua mag .22 - they are sub sonic sand absolutely consistent as buggery! They come in a can thing and have a wax on them.
Different smell to their burnt powder as well...not a top end ammo but not bottom either.

Only way to answer that question is by buying every type of ammo you can find and test them until you find what your rifle shoots best. After about 1000rds down the tube it can be worthwhile doing the test again.
When you know what it likes, buy it by the case.

Do you mean SK Magazine? That comes in a can and is lubed like crazy - messiest ammo I've ever used. Shoots okay for me but not great.

As others have said buy a whole bunch and try them out, each rifle is different. I've just recently gone through this with my Weihrauch, it's a fun process and the stuff that isn't any good you can use for plinking.

Here's what my safe currently looks like at the moment.

Mine shoots the following well CCI Std, Velocitor, Mini Mag (not quite as good as the Velocitor but still good), Eley HV, SK Match. I ended up settling on CCI for plinking, SK MAtch for accuracy and Velocitor for hunting. The following did not shoot well, Win PP, CCI Stingers and Remington el cheapo stuff. However every rifle is different so try a bunch

i totally agree with you,sk magazine is by far the greasiest ammo ever, sk standard /match,rws and a few others are lubed up but the sk magazine are out of control  don't worry about the stingers/cc quiet or any other slow .22 ammo, have not found any that groups but that was at 25mtrs they may group better at 10 or 5mtrs :sarcasm: cci standard or mini mag for hunting and sk standard or match for paper, you can use the sk for hunting but unless its a headshot they will run a little bit before dying, where i shoot they sit right on the edge of the gorse and if they get in it you can't get them out  on a side note gorse bushes will scratch your arms through your shirt and is rather itchy :allegedly:

Yes, that’s the stuff - SK magazine. After testing 20 different .22’s I can group quite decently at 100 from the ole cz and 10c groups at 50. It’s very consistent.

I generally shoot subsonics due to noise concerns, but my LA101 shoots like a laser with Eley Subsonic HP, Eley High Velocity HP and Sellier & Bellot Subsonic HP. Shoots acceptably with CCI Subsonics, and for taking care of rabbits that's usually what I shoot, typically 1.5 inch or so groups with the CCI.

Had very poor accuracy with Remington Subsonic HP, and had a lot of feeding issues with Winchester Subsonic HP, so I currently have boxes of both sitting unused in the safe.

Try some RWS subs - mine loves them !
not cheap but in my rifle at least they shoot very well, have a lovely lubricant coating.
As everyone says though - try before you buy ( in bricks !!!)

HI ALL Tried out my new lithgow LA101 Saturday. First up I blew the black dot out of a paper target at 25 yards 30+rounds in one hole about 15mm. Then on to 50 yards first 5 rounds were 25-50mm off centre then it was all down hill from there. The major problem was me not knowing how to use a scope properly also I had a very bad benchrest setup. They will be rectified at my next shoot. Bit hard to judge ammo under those conditions but will point out that win T22 would not eject a number of times so will stay clear of them in future. Others I used were eley club, cci-sv, rws club, fiocchi tt sport and fiocchi performance will get a better read of those brands next time The gun I was happy and will be better when I get better.

Buy a tikka T1x instead ,,,its more accurate and feeds and ejects reliably :D
