I think it's partially a market void being filled. Many .22's are coming out with a threaded barrel. The majority of us can't put a suppressor on it, but the thread is there. People want to put 'something' on the threaded barrel. Ergo: .22lr brakes.

A muzzle brake on a 22LR rifle can serve only a few possible purposes, aesthetics, crown protection and sound distribution. Recoil reduction isn't in the mix due to the insignificant amounts of energy involved compared to the mass of the rifle.

On the other hand, with a pistol a compensator can be very effective in reducing muzzle jump on light pistols.

Then we have barrel tuners....we cannot reload 22LR to suit the harmonics of the barrel so a tuner is used to adjust barrel length to hit the harmonic.
