Ok so not everyone is into messing about with old .22’s and I’ll concede that a review of a new rifle makes for a more interesting read but just for fun here’s a review of something a bit different I picked up recently.
The zkm468 was a single shot rifle made by Brno and sold to the public as a “garden gun”.
Some good arguements can be found on the webs suggesting it was a military trainer but I believe it was both. Possibly commissioned by the military and then as arms manufacturers do, market the surplus to the civilian market.
Mine is a 1958.
It has a 6 land 20.5 inch barrel and basic notch and bead open sights. A rear leaf is adjustable with a screw for evevation and both the rear leaf and front blade are dovetailed for windage.
There is no provision for mounting a scope without damaging the receiver so she’s an open sight only kinda deal.
The extractor is also simple and rather than ejecting the spent case it displays it nicely in the receiver for you to inspect before tipping the rifle upside down to discard
The woody bits and steel bits are held together with a single screw
The beechwood stock is very similar to the model 1’s
2’s and 5’s with the length of pull being the same but the schnabled forend shorter on the 468.
Instead of a butt plate the butt was simply sanded and finished with simple groves.
So how does it shoot?
I’ve spent the last couple of weekends playing with my new toy and while I am definitely no marksman I was able to get a 1.46 inch 5 shot group at 50yds shouldered and a front bag (swag)
The sights on this thing are very hard to use, not nearly as defined as they are on my model1 and I’m sure if I spent a bit more time plinking I’d pull it in a bit tighter so I’m pretty happy!
Here’s a quick comparison to the model 1
of a 1.2 inch slaying of a 3 year olds dinosaur!! Its a fun sunday plinker, a great kids trainer or an easy light pest smacker.
There doesn’t seem to be many around for sale but they do come up and at around $250 for one in reasonable condition I would definitely recommend throwing one in the safe
