Stirling 14P

Post by luvmeadler » 07 Jun 2020, 9:00 pm

Hey guys, Anyone know much about the Stirling model 14P as mine has just done a trigger mechanism i think.
After about 8 shots on our shoot yesterday when ejecting a spent cartridge the bolt slid straight out and the trigger is stuck in the firing position.
Can anyone give me any info about these rifles and what could possibly be wrong with it.... Cheers

Don't take this personally but the Stirling as a rifle makes a great garden stake. I am not sure that I would spend $100 repairing one. Perhaps it is a great opportunity to upgrade to a better rimfire?

Hey SCJ all good, soon as i bought it i knew it was'nt what i really wanted, it was an impulse buy at the time but i wont make that mistake again....
Just bought a trigger mechanism for it from rebels, don't like the idea of having a rifle i cant use when i want to... even if it is junk lol.....

I wasn't trying to offend, but from experience there are better rifles out their which are far more pleasant to shoot. I had a Striling in the 80s and put about 20,000 rounds through it and shot heaps of foxes. These days you can get a cheap rimfire from Ruger or Tikka that are miles better.

Rifles are great...period...!!...getting a cheap one & being albe to fix it up cheaply is a bonus i rekon...

Better to learn on a cheap mistake than an expensive one...& the experience you'll get from it will be great too...!!

Have fun fixing it up & getting it pinging again...& im with you mate, having a rifle sit there not doing anything is silly...(so i should stop waffling & get on & sort my Brno...)
Keep us posted how it comes along...

No offense taken SCJ, I knew it might be a bit of a trouble maker as i did get it reasonably cheap so i guess ya get what ya pay for.... The missus and the lad put about 800 rounds through before she went bung.... i mainly got it for them to play with while i play with the adler and the swede mauser but i had some fun with it as well so cant complain to much. So Stix, what are the bruno's like, they any good?

Yes adler lover...theyre great...!!

I think they're one of the best little 22's one can buy...!!

See if you can do what OldBlokes done & get a dinged up cheapie with a good barrel...!!

Where abouts you to...??
Id be willing to throw mine back together & let you have a feel if time & circumstances allow...although its not accurate at the moment...

Hey Stix, Yeah I figured the barrel is in quite good condition and its quite accurate for an oldie, i probably would have scrapped it if the rifling was worn out and did'nt hit the side of a barn............ Would love to try the bruno, never shot one, I live around the Two Wells area, cant shoot around here but i know a bloke that lets us use his property near Robertstown........ How bout yourself?

Im a half hour south of you...

Ill see if i can get time to pull it out this week & see what it needs...cant even remember what i did with the scope mounts bloody hell...!!...might have given them to someone in a moment of being too nice...
To get it more accurate I need a piece of Aluminium tube cut to length that i havent been able to do accurately enough ( i dont have a lathe) but i should shoot without it--just not accurate...

Anyway...Long way to go to ping off a few 22's though...this bloke happy to let a few foxes go...?...or hares---i want a couple of hares to confirm a beaut pie recipe i did a while back wasnt a fluke... :)

Anyway...chat the rest via PM hey...

you cant just swap the bolts over, the have to be headspaced by a gunsmith to fit properly and not blow your head off

Yeah figured I'd have to get a gunsmith to check it out before i went any further...... Probably be easier to buy another 22 than muck around to much,
Cheers for the heads up :)

I have replied to you. I think the complete rifle isn't worth much so I couldn't ask you to pay for a bolt.
