Looks more like a defect in the material. It is reasonable to anticipate ongoing failure with further use. If you don't replace it right away at least procure a spare for when you do need it. I would also suggest making representations to the distributor that it be 'gratis' due to an obvious manufacturing defect. They should be happy to do so as it would be saving them warranty gunsmith and handling expenses.
