someone in another post asked about a 22 rimfire barrel life
so l thought l'd put up a couple of borescope images to show a good one and a washed out one out of interest

first is the good throat of my 1951 brno model1

Image

next is at 2" up from the throat in my recently bought 1923 winchester gallery gun

Image

the gallery gun has probably been used as a gallery gun and was never really cleaned and is burned out as well as corroded
but seriously it will hit swingers at 35y-50y no worries and is a hell of a lot of fun
as l go up the bore further there is some lands but they dont look good, it is plenty good enough for a fun gun IMO :drinks:

Id like one of these.
A good learning tool i rekon.
Ive learned a lot from looking down the bore of a few of my rifles when ive had the chance with others hawkeye's. Doing so has given my mind an actual picture of what a bore looks like when good, part worn but looked after, part worn & not looked after, & buggered. As well as how good some Tikka barrels are out of the box.

I just had a look at them, can i ask what model did you get marksman, & where from.

Thanks for posting this up too.

and a few different photos showing throat erosion in a 22 that still groups very very well

this is my sons model 2 brno with a micro grove bore
first is where the throat should be

Image

next is at 1" up from the last photo showing lands but they are rounded and not in good order

Image

then at 6" up from the first showing good lands in the micro grove barrel

Image

this 22 rimfire shoots very well with subsonic ammo, as good as any other IMO
this photo is of 2 seperate days checking it is sighted in @ 60y, the shot out of each group is the first
it shows a 22 rimfire bore that is not pristine can still shoot

Thanks for the pics MM, a pretty cheap investment I think. Shame they don't fit my 17s.

I thought I might look into buying a borescope because I thought it might encourage me to do a better job cleaning my rifles because I’m a bit slack in that dept ...then I saw they were 600 bucks. And I Thought no that’s for me I will spend 600 on ammo but I’m not spending 600 just to look at something .....

l dont think they are necessary but they take the guesswork out of it,
shame they don't fit my 17s as well Timboon
IMHO you can get an idea of what your bore is like by feel with a tight patch on a cleaning rod
