Did I f*ck up my brand new rifle

Post by SAnewb85 » 29 Nov 2020, 9:21 pm

Tried to pre-clean my cz457, the cleaning rod punched through the patch, did I possibly destroy my barrel?

Yes, all the cleaning gear is .22 specific.

Kinda freakin out. Although I know I need to shoot it to figure out if I've busted something.

Any thoughts or suggestions or words of encouragement?

Yep.
Send it to me coz its broken and well coz!

No mate you are all good.
I assume your cleaning jag is either plastic or brass.
Make sure you get any packing grease out of the barrel.
Give it a light oil and you should be good to go.
One well placed shot is all it takes.

If you are not familiar with firearms.
22's don't need a lot of cleaning.
However if you want the best out of it then buy a bunch of different ammo and see what shoots the best.
Chances are you will find one that shoots better than the rest.
The CZ'z normally have a limited amount of trigger adjustment.
Once you are familiar with the rifle it may be worth adjusting but not before you put at least 500 rounds through it.
One well placed shot is all it takes.

OK
I take it you cannot determine steel from brass or bronze.
As the steel in a cz is pretty tough it is unlikely to have done any damage to the barrel.
Even if it has the damage is unlikely to have had a significant impact on accuracy as 22lr's are very forgiving and I doubt this is a benchrest gun.
As long as all the bits out of the barrel then it should all be good to take it out and have a shot.

P/S stop using a loop and use a proper jag. Don't make the patch too tight or you will cause other problems and damage the crown
The diamond cut ones are the best in my opinion but 22 pretty much don't really need cleaning in my opinion.
Others opinions will differ.

you screwed up big time, what a shameful display of gun ownership, you should be forced to walk a thousand man line as they ritualistically belt your ass with a paddle and then repeat on return...

it will be fine lol.

Funny thing is I always thought you pushed a jag either plastic or brass but pulled a loop just a thought

You .22 will be ok enjoy shooting it wipe down the outside then next time you have shot about 10,000 or accuracy goes of clean the barrel

It will be fine.

Just ensure the barrel is cleaned of all oil and grease before firing.

Clean and lightly oil the rest.

From which direction are you cleaning? Muzzle or breach?
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Please let me summarize
Your jag has a sharp point that you poke through the centre of the patch.
You are cleaning from the chamber to muzzle.

Wondering why you broke through the patch. Are you using flannel? Do you think that misjudging the dimensions of the patch, might have led to the accident?
