Brno Mod 2. Purchase Help

Post by jaktmann » 13 Jan 2021, 6:45 pm

Hi there, Long time lurker first time posting.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1977 Brno Mod. 2. Unfortunately I can not inspect it directly and it will be an online purchase. I have attached some pictures below and would like to ask your thoughts and if there is any reason to be concerned about purchasing based only on the photos? Seller claims he inherited it and it has fired very few rounds. He himself had the barrel threaded for the silencer and added the bipod and BSA scope. Could the barrel be damaged from a potential poorly executed silencer addition?

My grandfather had a Mod. 2 and it was the type of rifle I did lots of my early hunting with so I may be blinded by the sentiment of it all. Also what about price? I will pay the equivalent of AUD $600. (I am an Aussie living in Europe - and yes the silencer is ok here).

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Its identical to mine, including the year.
Appears in very good to excellent condition perhaps a tad better than mine. I agree, only put a couple of thousand rounds through mine. So sounds me legit.

From what I've seen price looks pretty good.
Silencer probably not be legal. Most states they are very, very restricted.
Thread on barrel should not effect it.

Expect tad under 1" group at 50 yards. I use RWS club.

Hope you get it. I used to have one and regret moving on without it.

Ask for the front & rear sight if its not fitted. They can be hard to find and expensive. Same for mags

G'day jaktmann,
Nice looking rifle, I would not be concerned about the fitting of the silencer as most gunsmiths over there are experianced with fitting them and the chance of damaging the crown are negligble but even so, it is no great cost or effort to remove the can and re-crown. The price seems OK, even here they pull 6 to 900 without scopes (and of course without silencers!!) Go for it, Cheers.

Thank you all very much for the responses. Again just to clarify I am living in Europe at the minute and the silencer is legal here.

So I paid the deposit today. Still would of liked to see it firsthand but I hope the pictures tell the true story. I attach a couple of additional pics again here as I was limited to 10 pics when posting. Will update you all once the rifle is delivered but this will take about 2-months with paperwork etc.

Cheers!

To my eye it looks almost unused.
Doubt you will be disappointed.

Comes with two mags. I will ask if he still has the sights and make sure he sends them also if possible. Thanks.

Thanks very much. Silencer costs about AUD $100 locally here and the BSA Sweet runs at about AUD $150. Given these are both new additions to the rifle then I agree overall the price seems acceptable. I thought perhaps the barrel threading might actually decrease the value of the rifle overall. Have paid the deposit today!
