crikey ! big ocular on ya scope mate . i've played around with mount height on my weihrauch , being a "barvaian" hogs back stock it favours a upright head position . which is prefered in europe i think for offhand shooting . high leupold mounts seem to work

Meopta has a new Optika5 2-10x42 scope in both a fixed parallax model and adjustable down to 10 yards. A friend has the 3-15 and I have the 4-20. All the Optika5's have 1-inch tubes, very nice glass, and are a great price. Hard to beat Meopta quality for the same money.

I just looked them up at thebarn.net.au and they are a pretty good price there too, if their adjustment mechanism is reliable etc, etc.
It does seem a low price for a Meopta, in Oz anyway :unknown: I am used to seeing double those prices for a Meopta.

okay , after 60 rounds of varying brands , 34gn winchesters group consistantly around 1" at 100 even with a little wind. second best are cci game points that group around 1 1/4" on average , sometimes better . should improve with more rounds through the barrel . rem 40 hp's went over 3" !

only complaint about the rifle was cases got hung up on the edge of the chamber during feeding . had to manipulate the case with a pen to get the edge of the case to start in the chamber . got better with use, but a little debur job with the dremel . ejection was flawless . flinged cases far and wide  aside from that it's a very consistant, smooth , good qaulity rifle. happy with my hw60 weihrauch

scope wise , the 3-9x40 leupold rimfire scope came in handy with the ballistic plex for 50gn federal hp's . these grouped around a inch too :D

now clean the rifle and then have beers :drinks: :drinks:

Each to their own.
I'll be trading my .22mag for a Lithgow LA101 in.22lr next weekend.
The price of the magnum ammo got too much for my liking. I have an 8yo son shooting now and .22mag is just to expensive to plink with. Never been overly impressed with the accuracy either. Might just be my cheap Stirling M1500 too.
I'm heading down the route of reduced loads with 40gr bullets out of my .222rem if I want .22mag levels of noise and performance. Costs the same or less.

no mate , federal 50 grain hollow points .come in packs of 50 . the ballistic recticle on my leupold rimfire scope comes in very handy for switching between the different bullet weights . they shoot well out of most 22 mags . took mine out today , was pretty windy . 100 yard groups that normally averaged around 1-1 1/4" blew out to 2- 2 1/2" . par for the coarse with a rimfire on a windy day . still , no worrying about where the brass ends up , and a bit more range and capability than the 22lr .

22lr has it's place though

I have a Voere 22 mag I bought in 1978 from K Mart in Cannon Hill , Brisbane. It loved Aussie Winchester made ammo back then and would shoot consistently under 1 inch at 100 yards. It was fitted with a 4 x 40 Gold Crown Nicko Stirling scope which I still have. 130 meters shooting bunnies was an easy thing to do. I replaced the old scope with a Vortex Copperhead 4 - 14 x 40. Absolutely hate it. Going back to the old Nicko. I have only got back into shooting around 2 and a half years ago and had to go through the whole "find out what it likes now". CCI 30 grain V Max ( had to be the expensive ammo :( ) are the go followed very closely followed Hornady 30 grain V Max.
This rifle is a never ever sell, forever rifle. I have shot everything with it and used it as my main rifle when I used to do Roo skins.

Cheers
Fred.

i got a mate with a voere in 22lr fred , it's very accurate and he loves it . your old mag sounds like a good one . i haven't tried the cci or hornady 30 vmax loads . i tried the winchester 30vmax and it is not that flash . 34gn winchester can shoot really good , 3/4". but then a flyer ruins it

i've got a weihrauch 60j in 22 mag coming . bit more zap than a 22lr with a little more range . i'm starting to like rimfires more as i'm getting tired of reloading . moved on my 222 for a tikka t3x . three different types of factory ammo in that rifle shoot under .75" . why reload ?
so i've got this 22mag coming , intended use is a rabbit/fox/cat rifle , walking or with light at night . it won't have the range of a hornet , but load, fire, "forget about brass", sounds very no fuss for me. i like the idea of the heavier projectile compared to the 17hmr . some of the new 22mag ammo is much more accurate than in times past

so do any of you fellas have any opinions or views to share on the 22mag ?

 I had a super little .22mag a Win Model 9422. Given that it was lever action, short barrel, and not match ammo it would shoot 1" groups with care mostly a little above that.
Like a dill i sold it to fund my son to an outward bound camp.
If Winchester or the Japanese counterpart that makes so many very fine rifles were to take it up again its my guess they would be running overtime shifts to keep up with demand. :drinks:

I recently bought a 94-22 in 22lr . Basically unfired. Didn’t have any blue worn off the bolt or lever. I paid $1250 for it. My local shop reckoned he’d advertise it for more than $1700 if he had it . The 94-22’s are pulling stupid money. Saw a 22mag on usedguns for $2000 !

No mine’s not for sale. Well made fun little gun

I’ve had my Stirling (Birmingham) delux bull barrel in 22 mag for 35 years, no bluing left on the barrel, braised the bolt lug to tighten it up, fabricated a new firing pin, it’s shot god knows how many 1000’s of rounds.
At one stage in my life paid my bills sustaining me. It even keep me in fresh seafood off the Darwin wharves (storey for another time).

Shoots 1 MOA~with vmax but it’s definitely got a lot looser.

Ironically it’s semi retired, replaced with a Weihrauch H60j in 17 Hornet, a fickled frustrating little cartridge to hand load for......

I find 22 hornet a wonderful accurate little cartridge. But yeah, big fingers trying to hang onto tiny little projectiles to seat them is not fun
