A 3-9x40 Leupold is what I’ve got on mine. Seems like a pretty good match to me.

G'day bigrich,

The PARD NV008 sight I have on my HW 66P is either 6.5X or 13X. Frankly the 13X magnification is not necessary at the sort of distances a .22 Magnum shoots effectively. I have shot a few foxes using 13X to test it's usefulness, but tracking a hit fox if it runs a bit before dropping is near impossible and even I really don't need 13X to hit a sitting fox at 90 yards. That happened last night - I set the scope at 13X, but I quickly dropped back to 6X after the shot and found the animal about 100 yards up the paddock where it was expiring from a lung shot.

I agree with bigpete: 3-9x40 will be all that's required.

Meopta 3-9 mounted as low as possible on my Anschutz

Yeah, that’s about what I thought. I’ve been thinking a 3-9 loopy rimfire with the 65 yard parallax would be good. It’s just I have the 4.5-14 already, but the field of view would make tracking game difficult.

I just have 3-9×40 on everything from 22lr to 30.06.

TBH, I think it's a mistake buying a 22 mag. Should have got a Muzzle loader. :D

If you need buying advice just ask me in future.

Yeah very good scope size OB. If service shooters can group x10 into 3moa at 600yds with only a front blade and humble service rifle, pretty sure 9x magnification is enough for everything except fully-supported target shooting

I’d have a 2-7 on my 270 if I could get the scope to come back far enough for proper eye relief
I don’t normally fancy high magnification scopes with big objectives, but they can be handy for something that’s used for pest control at 200.

My idea of a 22 magnum is a 223. You can load it down to any strength/ velocity you desire or need.

Love my 223 comp gun. Absolutely adore it. On a forgiving day, it'll hold 2moa at 500m, with a Central + front-blade out of the service sling, using the 69gr SMK loaded cool. Easy brings home the 50.* at 300m if you're doing your part. Load it up with 6gr Trail Boss over a ~45gr - you'll have your 22wmr.

Lovely, but does your 223 hold 11 in the tube plus 1 up the spout, now that's a fun, cheap arvo knocking over plates as quickly and smoothly as you can with a 9422M.

One of them is a 7615 so it holds a considerable amount more with the added bonus of the classic pump action loading noise. The other is a standard bolt action that will hold the 10 in the mag with one in the chamber not that is a configuration that I would normally ever load to.

part of the reason for my 22 magnum is ,no mucking around reloading , and no worrying about where the brass ends up . just grab a box of 50 and go

i already have a 223 , and load for it , when i can just go out and buy buffalo river 50 round blister packs for $65 . no fuss and shoots .6" in my tikka.
i've loaded/load for a few other calibers , including a hornet . making things simple so i can spend time on other things

which is the reason of this post , new 22 mag so i don't have to spend time fiddling around with a hornet . next step up is my 223 . all bases covered

i run a 1.5-5x20 vx3 loopy on my 358 model 70 . at pig ranges it rarely comes of 1.5 magnification . on dusk/early nightime it's brighter through the scope than with the naked eye . when i was out past St George i handed my rifle to a mate to let him have a look and two pigs popped up 20 yards from us and what followed was a comical situation of my mate trying to pass my rifle back with me yelling back "shoot "em" he popped 'em :D

so now when i'm out with this mate and game is hard to find, i pass him my rifle and say "here shane-o , have a look through me scope "

still got it . in it's heavy barrel configuration , it's more what the yanks would call a "varmiter" . best part about it is i can load 40 grain ballistic tips . these can't be loaded and fit in hornet mags as the cartridge length ends up too long .

all i need to do now is find plenty of varmits at 150-200 yards ;)
