Lithgow 55 22 what are they worth

Hey,

I'm looking at a old Lithgow 22, it's in reasonable condition but missing the magazine. Anyone know where to find one?

What is a good price for the rifle?

Is it the one advertised on ozguns?

Very cheap but unsure if operational. Mags are available from various gunshops now. The same mag will fit a lot of Winchester 22's and some old Remington's.

Finding an original bibby is a lot harder.

Well you got a bargain. They are a reasoable little gun. I don't like them as much as the mod 12 as they took a few shortcuts and made some changes they didn't need to do and it is a lesser rifle.

Trigger adjustment is gone as is a decent size bolt handle and different bottom metal. Don't get me wrong, they are a nice little gun but could have been better.

They are rare. I have paid a lot more then that to get a good one and was going to try and grab this one as well.

As for mags , an original bibby will be harder to find but there are many new optiosn ot get it going. There are the ones from Gold coast shooters supplies that are ok. I had tried one that needed some tweeking to feed perfectly, just a couple of file strokes.

There are others from shooters.com.au that are for winchester 490, 52 , 69 or 75 that are identical. The lithgow action is basically a winchester 69 anyway. You will pay more for the mag than the rifle but that serves you right for jumping in before I could buy that 55.

Does anyone know where to get an ejector for a model 55? or if something from another model can be made to work?

My old man just got one and while it extracts great the shells stay on the bolt and wont budge.

It looks like there is something missing at the bottom of the action and and a empty screw hole so we are assuming the ejector screws down in there.

As for the ejector it will be a bit if a task.

The model 12 ejector will fit(same action so it should) if you can find one that is worth wrecking but most likely you will be robbing one gun just to make another work. Winchester 69 and 75's share the same design and wil also work.

You can check USA ebay for parts but the prices are depressing. Guys are paying 300 usd for a 69 winchester bolt when I could buy 3 lithgows here and send the bolts over.. They are getting 1000-1500 for a $200 gun parted out.

It will be a task, but the 55 is more valuable than an old mod 12 so the best money would be to wreck a 12 to get the 55 going.
