The pump might be an uncomfortable stretch for short arms.

A cheap lever action might be fun for them too.
Maybe look at the Chiappa’s.

Rossi pump would be the most fun, the pump action is pretty short.

Also beware it the grandkids will require Junior licences and be 12+ years old to be able to do it legally.

Between 9 and 19 ... any gun is fun, even if it's an old single shot

If I could justify (i.e. sneak it by the wife) another rimfire it would be a second-hand Browning Trombone. My brother has one and it is just a lovely bit of kit and very accurate. In a different league as far as quality goes. The younsters would love it.

One of them is 9, so no shooting at all, one is 19 so full Shooters Licence needed, one we don't know the age of but can assume 12+? so Junior Licence needed. No shooting at all other than an approved range under direct supervision until Licences are issued. I agree with on one wheel, as a youngster any rifle is great, I 1st used a slug gun and didn't stop grinning for days, when I was allowed to move up to the rimfire, a Springfield, it was Paradise!
