CZ455 timber stock design defect and simple fix

Post by SHV » 10 Dec 2022, 11:13 pm

Got a CZ455 3 barrel combo from my friend for 400 dollars years ago, basically a new gun but someone over tightened the action screws and crushed the timber 2mm deeper than it should be, so the screws stick out on other side and stopped the bolt operate properly

The stock timber is soft and the design is really bad, around the screw holes, almost half surrounding area is open without any material to support!!!

You can change the barrel easily that means you need take off the stock and put it back much more often than others but just put normal torque on the action screw the timber beneath can be damaged easily

My one is damaged from the ex owner, I use the cheapest way to fix, super glue baking soda sawdust…and carefully sanding to original level and shape

Due to the vertical direction of the wood fibre, it can stand much more pressure than before

They really need to be pillar bedded. The Boyd's AT-one stocks like the one pictured definitely need pillar bedding as they are extremely soft timber and will compress with light screw tension. I fitted one to a CZ457 and found it difficult to tighten the screws with a torque wrench as the stock timber was so soft. The rifle shoots amazing though so I have not bothered inserting pillars and bedding it.
