Need help, Springfield/Stevens model 56

Looks like a peep sight base on the end of receiver for me, anybody know this thing? If I can find the peep sight for it I will be very happy, always want a peep sight hunting 22

And for a magazine rifle why it says 22 S,L and LR?
Although most parts looks identical to some single shot 22 and for those single shot 22 rifles it’s quite common

As for the cartridge, that was stamped on all rifles that would chamber those 3 cartridges regardless of single shot or repeater. My Savage/Springfield 84 is marked the same
