Hornet, I can't actually think of a logical reason for one of those here, and by the time I buy special fragile lightweight 223 projectiles, scratch around for primers, more light-load-only-suitable squib load powders, AND the time loading another cartridge, AND having to re-sight the rifle to use this stuff then waste ammo re-sighting for full power stuff it's not worth my time.
And, it will end up being more cost. So, not even worth considering for me. But everyone has different circumstances and value in time.
Agreed about the Hornet. You should be fine with most varmint-design bullets, especially if you're head-shooting. If you reload you should already have plenty of primers. Use AR2207 for the powder if you don't have Trailboss, AR2206H or any pistol/shotshell powders.
You don't need to re-zero for them. I keep my standard 220m-ish zeros for my full-power loads and practice with the reduced loads at 50m to 100m to learn where I need to hold for close targets using a BDC reticle. For the .223 I use the Gameking 55gn bullet, which Cleaver sells very cheap - from about 15-20 cents apiece at 1750fps. Add a primer and ten cents worth of powder. And I can load them quicker than I can go into town and buy ammo.
And a 55gn bullet is going be better in any wind, and hit harder at longer distances, while keeping the option of dropping in a full-power load whenever I need to, without needing a second rifle.
