.22LR Projectiles

Post by Norty_Country_Bloke » 22 May 2014, 11:18 pm

Why is no ammunition manufacturer (that I'm aware of) producing .22LR ammunition with the option of a polymer tip? I see HMR and WMR loads with said tips.

Does the .22LR cartridge simply not have enough velocity to gain proper expansion to make the tip a viable option? Or is it more that it simply isn't cost effective?

P.S. Long time lurker, first time poster. Glad to finally join the community!
.22LR, .222 Remington, .12g. But it's not the same when they don't live in your safe :P

G'day mate, welcome to the forum.

Can't speak from any insider knowledge but I would be pretty confident the issue is cost.

.22LR is the go-to cartridge when you want to shoot something cheap. Anything to change that won't gel with a lot of people I'm sure.

Cost I'm sure is the biggie.

Outside of that though I'd say anything you're shooting with a 22LR shouldn't need the tip - no reason to add the expense.

Agree with that.

Take 300 win mag as an example. You could be hunting deer or you could move up the ladder tobuffalo. Big difference... bullet make up will mean a lot.

Back to 22lr. You could be hunting rabbits or "move up" the ladder to foxes. Not so much of a difference ;)

Cost.

17HMR is 4x the price or something of 22LR?

There sure as hell isn't 4x as much power, brass or bullet there. Just a fancier bullet.

Do they what.

Start a "complain about the cost of rimfire magnum ammo" forum.

It'll be the most popular website in town.
