Savage 93 in 22wmr an ok gun?

Looking for economical but decent, that semi mythical combination , and wondered where this sits. Is it old Stirling 22 level or more towards Brno..

i've been curious about these myself . a lot of yanks seem to like them with a good reputation for accuracy and trigger , at their price point . i've seen a few anschutz in 22mag that wouldn't shoot for sh!t . 22 rimfires are a lucky dip , with the exception of cz 452 American's IMHO . the ruger american rimfire in 22lr and 22wmr is supposedly very good for the money , but have seen on american forums they have had a lot of warranty issues with early production .

myself , after much research ,i went out and bought a new lithgow 101 in 22lr due to high praise in accuracy and build qaulity. worst accuracy i've ever seen . tried everything . fixed it by doing a like for like on a cz 452 american . problem solved . i know it's not a 22mag , but i thought the story might be of use . best 22 mag i had was a weihrauch hw60j . on a good day sub 1" groups at 100 off the bench . windy days showed me the limitations of the 22mag

Thanks mate, being a lucky dip as you say with 22mag it's why I was thinking of the savage as it won't murder the bank.

Mick, I think you reload.?
If you have a 222 or 233, just developed a lightish load. It isn't rocket science.

I am with Oldbloke as my reduced Trailboss .223 load groups a lot better than my .22 mag.
I do like the CZ 515 fun action and it can shoot the odd good group but shoots bad ones too despite trying lots of different ammo brands. No idea if the proper semi-auto model that we are not allowed shoots better.

Blokes do well in the 22mag lucky-dip with Annies and Rugers.
I don't like Savage much as you often hear of rifles failing or breaking that would be rare in most other brands.

You also don't get the better match grade ammo like in 22lr and that could be half the problem.

No interest in downloading 223 as at wmr speeds it still burns 4x the powder or more than a 22wmr, it's a noisier platform. I'm getting the wmr and it's little 6 grain powder pop noise for low signature. Trailboss is no interest as it's low speed, not 2000fps capable.

Also id estimate you would need to dobs bit of research on just what .224 bullets even expand at wmr speeds, if any? Too much muck around for me in this case.

Any powder AR2206 or faster can be used.
Because I have it, I use 7.6gr AS50n.
I'm using superoos with the tip removed and they kill foxes 30 to 80yards so far. I think I'm getting about 1900fps.

I have one that has a bull barrel it was a gift from my late wife years a go I just don't use it much I got it for shooting yotes at night because at the time the law wouldn't let me use center fires at night now I can.
it does shoot good my younger son uses way more then me.

I’ve looked into downloading my 222 for 22 mag performance, reduced loading using 2206h looked very viable. Projectile wise Sierra makes a 45gn bullet for the 22 hornet with a thinner jacket for hornet speed. But be careful as they make a 224 and a 223 diameter bullet for earlier 22 hornet . I never got around to trying this, and I think I’d prefer just shooting 22 mag ammo and not worrying where the fired cases end up. Hope this helps, cheers

.

Sounds like a good load you have there mate, now you want to drive up and give me some of that no longer made powder ? ; ) or truck me up some aps450? :)

seriously I like reduced loads but working up new data with pistol powder scarcity, customising bullets and checking whether they expand etc, it's a level of project I don't want this time. Off the shelf ammo for this one.
