Bipod Addition to my .17 and .22WMR - Question...

Post by Mark.A » 23 Aug 2014, 9:47 am

Howdy All,

I've been looking at this for the last week in my spare moments, and it looks like i've come to an impass, to drill or not to drill. I've got myself a couple of Hyskor Bipods, and I can see where they fit on the swivel, BUT the internal hole for the mount in the swivel seems to be a little small (cant be more than 1mm or so) (waiting on a set of calipers for check so I dont over do it), I was wondering before I commit to drilling the swivel mount out, are there any other thoughts?

When I drill it out, there will be a exposed raw metal face, any thoughts on how to protect it?

Thanks all!

nb. And Hello :)
And thats the way it is..

I drilled one of mine to fit the Hyskor, no issues doing it.

Is it stainless or mild steel?

If it's mild just a few drops of bluing.

I'm pretty sure they're aluminium, not steel, so bluing is out.

As aluminium oxidises though it basically encases itself a hard little shell of oxidised metal. It doesn't expand and flake off like "rust" and with a little basic maintenance will last indefinitely anyway.

Simply painting the surface to cut it off from the air would be fine, otherwise a wipe down and rub with patch of oil on it when you clean your rifles will do the job.
