What 22 cal cartridges would be best for the following use:

1. Medium to Long range 500-1000 metres?

2. Most accurate 200-300 metres?

3. Most cast bullet friendly?

2. 220 swift?

3. Wouldn't know about cast bullets.

1. These days NONE....!!!!

2. These days very few but none will even come close to the Wildcat 6mm Calibres. For 1,000 yards then think a lot bigger like .300WM. I did very well recently with one of the 6.5mm calibres at 500m competition.

3. Don't care, don't play. They aren't in the ball park and too much trouble for what they are worth....!!!

Is there a reason it has to be 22?

Not open to other suggestions?

To get a light weight 22 cal bullet to shoot a thousand yards even vaguely accurately it would be traveling waaaayyy faster than cast lead can handle and large amounts of it will be left in your barrel ruining accuracy anyway. Cast lead is limited to about 1800fps
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Bearing in mind we are talking about .22 calibres. I am also making the assumption you are talking about target shooting.

1: .223 remington is still one of the more common used on fullbore ranges up to 1000, is it the best? Perhaps not but it is used and often to great effect. The way some people talk you would expect to see the .223 projectiles falling on the ground at 600 yards

2: It is more the rifle and the user than the cartridge at these short ranges, a well loaded .223 is more capable than most users. The wildcats are usually barrel burners in the .224 calibre arena(over capacity for the bore size).

3. In .22 the humble old rimfire .22LR is the king of cast bullets, each .22LR is a stepped waxed cast lead projectile and there have been billions made and used over the past 100+ years. As a centerfire cast bullet reloading prospect it is extrememely rare, most people I know who reload cast concentrate on larger calibres, smaller calibres can have certain issues with bore cleaning and blocking, especially when black powder is used.
