Smoke from .22lr breech

Just checking this is normal (I hope )

I have my .22 Annie which shoots good. I seem to get a lot of smoke waft out of the breech after opening the bolt to cycle a round though.

Pulling back the bolt and leaving it open I get a baseball size area of smoke that wafts out for about 3 seconds before dissipating.

Seems like a lot for a 22?

That seems a bit weird.
I can go through ten rounds in me .22LR and only really get a whisp out of the end of the barrel.
I mainly shoot subs though.

I have had that with eley edge. Think it was the wax they use on them. Smell wasn't great either

Could be just the ammo type but look up the barrel after a shot and see if it has lots of unburnt powder or garbage left in the bore . This can indicate the bore is very dirty and waxed up and the smoke does no evacuate forward much . I guess it can also indicate the ammo is more dirty than others .
Scrub the barrel and see if it still happens . If it still happens the ammo may be a bit crappy .

I don't know the exact number of shots since cleaning but the barrel would not should have been dirty.

At a guess would have had something like 150 rounds through it since last cleaned.

Only used at the range too so no foreign dirt in there from the bush etc.

It happens with some ammo. Not a big deal, don't worry about the rifle.

Been a while since I shot it but I vaguely recall the Rifle Match being a little smoky if you open the bolt quickly after shooting.

Hi stephencee,
Can't say I've noticed it with SK but I'lll find out soon, I bought a brick of it a while back when Eley was hard to get (now it's everywhere groan)
Smoke smell and sound varies between brands and even betwwen batches sometimes.
The main thing is you've noticed it and are looking for answers, thats a good habit to have.
You'll try a few things work out what it was and be a better shooter for it.

SK Rifle Match new batch might be a bit smokey.
It's hard to tell because it was a bit windy when I was shooting but I did notice a bit of smoke some bolt opens.
Then again it might have been just because I was looking for it.
So I'm not much help really.

Highland does that, when I unfortunately bought a truck load. Use to leave my pistol very black with soot.
