Norinco .22 jw15 (and introducing myself)

Post by joker » 01 Jun 2015, 10:23 am

Hey every one thought I would introduce myself being new to the forum.

Well I've always been fishing taking the little boat out into PPB but I recently obtained my firearm license and thought I would try something different.

I put in my first application to get my first rifle and now playing the waitin game (25 days to go) my rifle of choice is the norinco .22 jw15 which comes with a generic scope.

Well I think that's about it for now but looking forward to picking everyone's brains and learning about guns and hunting

Cheers Joker

That's what I'm looking to get. It's brand new and goes for 350

.22 is always the best place to start, IMO. Cheap ammo, good to learn the basics, cheap ammo, no recoil, cheap ammo, great to learn about bullet drop, cheap ammo, useful little cartridge, cheap ammo, great for bunnies and even foxes, cheap ammo, one of my favourite rounds and cheap ammo.

Did I mention the ammo is cheap? means you can practice all day long for a few dollars and great fun.

Hahaha you I was looking at a 20 storage gun safe. You think that'll be enough ;p lol

Although I love shopping for all the new gear the one problem I haveIis that I don't have any one experienced to help me out. And notsure Iif you can trust some of them gun dealers out there lol. At least I got everyone's help on the forum which will help me from getting screwed over haha haha

I never knew bullets can make a difference. How do you tell?

If prices are going up better start stocking up on the bricks:D hahaha

I'm pretty new to this too but one thing I've learned is the storage figures they quote are a bit of an exaggeration.

A 20 safe will be 20 wall to wall in there mashed against each other. Probably more like 12-14 comfortably without scratching everything.

The type of ammunition makes a huge difference. Comes down to a number of factors....

Higher quality ammunition will typically have more uniform weight/shape projectiles.
More consistent powder charges in each cartridge.
More uniform brass.

.22lr isn't effected to these extremes as it's such a small projectile but for example cheaper .30 cal projectile weight can vary by +/- 3-4 grains.

Buy a box cheap "150gr" projectiles and they could be a mix of anything from about 146gr - 154gr. Over distance that has an increasing effect on drop and a change in point of impact/accuracy. Over a few hundred metres one could be hitting 6"- 7" lower than the other even though they're out of the same box. (Guestimate there but you get the idea).

As well as that, some rifles and ammo just don't sync together. What shoots great in one rifle may be terrible in another and vice versa.

The same applies for your .22lr and factory ammo. One type might shoot 1" groups, another will shoot 3" groups.

And as bentaz said, just because it's expensive is no guarantee it will shoot well in your rifle. The cheap stuck might do better. The only way to know is to try.

If you can find people with the same rifle and what ammo has shot well for them that's not a bad start though.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?

I always thought the figure for amount you can store in your safe was precise. I'm looking at just getting a 3 storage safe any way. Going to be awhile before II catch up to every ones level lol

OK fair enough. I guess I'll just buy a few different packages of ammunition and test them out. Lucky yous told me because I was planning to buy the brick straight away hahaha

any one have a norinco .22lr jw-15 and have any suggestions on the ammunition ?

Cheers

Fairly sure you can still buy it. Just has to be delivered to and registered at your local gun shop.

Need some advice ASAP please. So these are the two options i have;

1 - $350 norinco .22 jw15 synthetic which includes aluminium scope mounts & generic 3-9x40 rifle scope (I checked a few different sites selling the combination but no other details on the scope is given)

2 - $255 norinco .22 jw15 synthetic without scope but you get two 5 clip magazines

So im not sure if its better save the $100 and buy a different scope or it doesn't make a difference?
