KWhorenet wrote:Do you reload? If not, simple answer would be based on ammo price, a .223 and buy a bulk case of ammo cheap. Keep the brass and sell it in batches of 50 or 100 to recover ~60% of the ammo cost.

As for brand...that's a personal choice. Go and pick up a bunch of rifles in gun shops and see what you like. Depends what you want to spend.

To be quite honest, your questions are like asking how long's a piece of string.

Don't reload at present, couple of mates do though, i just give em my brass. I can, will, have and do head into the stores, but im after opinions, tell me how long the darn piece of string is....i don't mind really.

We digressed into the fact that it doesn't take much to lose your hobby. In fact, get a good enough lying complaint about your personality or any behaviour and you might even end up in court fighting to be seen as innocent when there was no evidence for the complaint.

How much is a 50BMG?

Full package with scope and mounts you're getting up around $15k before ammo which will set you back another $12 a round or $6.50 to reload. These are totally impracticable to own and shoot but the grin factor is worth it.

An idea on budget might help with suggestions, I shoot a dozen different calibres and each one is enjoyable in it's own way. I'm just as happy shooting the air rifle as I am the big stuff.

12g all the way.....
every shooter needs at bare minimum 1 each of;
22LR rimfire (cheap plinking fun)
303Brit (preferably Aussie made yeah KW!)
12g for not so cheap but still lots of fun plinking and very effective on everything from bunnies to birds up to whatever you care to shoot at reasonable range
then add your 8x57, a few mags, 300,338winmag, a 375, a 45cal mag, maybe some smaller stuff for the girls like a 243 or 223.....
to start you off..!!

that's where it sits on the list with my currently, but you know how a visit to the gun shop ends up sometimes lol.

I want the new Adler lever action, and willing to wait and hope and pray, that's why im currently considering another gun to supress my emotional state of not being able to access the Adler lol.

i like the circuit judge, but my choice of calibre would be the .44, i don't think they sell them anymore though.

Forgot the 30/30 or 45/70, you just gotta have at least one lever action :D

Strangely enough even with my assortment of rifles I'm missing the 303, 8x57, 338WinMag, 45 Mag, 243 & 223from the above list....Bugger, better get some PTA's in :)

If you're eanting a rifle while waiting for the adler, i would humbly suggest 223. Cheap ammo, accurate enough, would slot into your current collection nicely.

Strongly suggest a .22-250 rem

Post by KWhorenet » 10 Jul 2015, 12:55 am

Actually, I change my suggestion.

Strongly suggest a .22-250 rem since you like something with a bit of poke and a boom to match. Fits in between your .22lr and .308 for sure.
A bit more entertaining than the .223 rem.
Suggest getting a Tikka M55 or M595, (not a new Tikka model T3) with a heap of once fired brass thrown in as a package deal. Oh wait, I may just have a couple of options available ! ;)

See, my opinion differs here. I would suggest a .223 would be a better fit seeing there's already a .308, but if you want something a bit flatter perhaps a .204?

T3 Lite .30-06 Sprg...Aimpoint Hunter 1X red dot

You agreed with my suggestion of a 223 wayyyy up the thread.

I have a few old model Tikka 22-250 rem's and a heap of brass. Hence changing my suggestion...as I'd like to sell one.

.223REM, cheap to shoot and fun too.
.303British, nostalgia, fun to shoot fast for a bolt gun. Can be had pretty cheap. Mine has a good barrel, came with a cheap scope and plastic stock. Cost 495.

ok, ill take a look at the 22-250 Remington as well. whats the ammo price. Comparable to 223 rem or dearer?

Sounds like you gotta beef with the Tikka T3 lite series? ive got the .308 in stainless, great gun imo, any issues I should know about?

I went on a buying spree. Have a couple of mint keepers, a donor for parts and couple of good shooters I can't justify keeping.

I bought 200 rounds of ammo for $1 each to get a shot and have brass to reload. Cheaper than buying brass, pill, powder, primer for first shot.

You can Google ammo prices. Generally take off 10% if you buy 10x20 at a time.

12G(everyone needs a 12g)
223Rem
22 PCP Air rifle
17-22 Hornet

In that order.

Cheers,

Nuzo

P.S. everyone should have a 12G.

It depends on what you want to shoot.

If free range duck is appealing then a shotty.

Probably something between 22lr and .308 like a 223 or 22-250.

I would ditch the air rifle and use something like CCI quiet 22 ammo for the really low power stuff.

thanks, yer im considering an in betweener, what brand and why if you've got thoughts on it.

As for the air rifle, NO WAY! i already run subbies through the LR and its nice and quiet for that, but the air rifle is a whole other thing. Right shot placement, even on the .177 is deadly for small game, and quieter than my .22, and if anything happens to .22 ammo, making pellets to fit would be very easy.

As for what brand it depends on budget and visual appeal, some prefer old fashioned others prefer more modern look,at the cheaper end Howa and Tikka are great value.

The T3 is fine.

A few people gripe over the plastic but whatever. It keeps it light and you can't have everything.

And they typically shoot very well.

This is not playboy magazine, we are not here to read the articles :D

Seriously, you mention the Circuit Judge, get one in 45/410  My wife loves ours, shoots 45LC and the 410 Critical defines loads are pretty cool. We put a Redfield Counterstrike on it. You will need to change the rail from a weaver to a Picatiny or file out the groove on the rail. Way cool.

You could add a 6.5x55 or 30-06 and a 223.
