Scope suggestion for 17HMR

Post by juststarting » 23 Aug 2015, 6:25 pm

Hi all

Any suggestion what would be a good scope for a 17HMR. I am guessing out to 300m at a maximum. Something in midrange.

Thanks

I've seen plenty of really good priced scopes on Amazon, one of which was a Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40mm. Good scope for 250 bucks, and should last you a good long while. Or at least, thats what reviews say.

Uh, my bad, should have been a bit clearer. I can research the brands, that's not an issue. I am more interested in magnification, what is right, what's an over kill and what's not really useful at the distance...

Range or hunting?

something like a 4-12 would be cover most distances whilst allowing you to get back down for finding critters

AusTac, correct, nice all rounder for both - range and hunting and I don't see doing anything over 300m with it at the range...

Out to 300m? Seems a little shy to me if regularly shooting out to that distance. ( 2 cents )

VX-2 though

out of curiosity, where have you been buying 17hmr ammo from? The few gun shops we have in launceston seems to be completely sold out of them and replacement stock is order but no where in sight.

12x will do you better than the 9x shooting that far, for sure.

Will do. I am probably going to do a range day in a month, will let you know then. Complicated wisdom tooth extraction in the near future, so probably going to take it easy.

Good luck with that mate.

Funny how different that operation can be for people. I know people who've basically had them popped out and been back in the saddle two or three days later, and others where it was like a mining operation shattering and excavating tooth which left them out for a week with a face swollen like a soccer ball.
