Help choosing a decent air rifle

Post by redrum » 07 Nov 2013, 2:49 pm

I've decided to get an air rifle.

Just for mucking about on paper or tin cans.

If I just want to spend $300 or something like that, I supposed they're all the same?

A Gamo or Giant or Stoeger air rifle will all be the same I guess?

Any real lemons to avoid?
Good news, everyone!

Save a few more tokens up and get a Weihrauch.

An extra $150 on this would take you from bottom of the barrel to something pretty decent...

That's what I'd do anyway.

My Experience with Gamo hasn't been so good...

I ordered a Gamo SOCOM 1000 from my local gun shop and they ordered it from Gamo as they had them in stock. After 3 long weeks, it arrived after the pallette of firearms 'went missing' with their courier. When I finally got the rifle, there was a sticker showing it had passed their QC and been tested. However, it could not be bore sighted. So it went off to the armourer who found the rifle so badly built, he returned it to the gun shop as unrepairable. It has now been returned to Gamo and I am waiting on a replacement. So far, through all this I have waited over 4 weeks to get delivery of a rifle Gamo have in stock in Australia and still waiting....

I have a Stoeger x10 in .177 and love it. It's very accurate and has a decent amount of power too it. It feels quality.

The only bad point is the s**ty trigger, but I've gotten used to it.

Cheers,

I also have a Stoeger X10 in .177 with a 4x32 scope and it is brilliant. Cost me under $300 and nails Indian Minahs, canetoads and rabbits with absolute authority. Trigger gets better with use, highly recommend it. Likes Winchester pellets.

The pen may be mightier than the sword, but personally I prefer the .30/30 Winchester.

Depends on your goals. I have 1 air rifle. It cost $35 about 12 years ago. It is a cheap-a$$ multi-pump Daisy. It leaks air on the first two pumps. It will still kill anything up to what I would use a silenced .22 for.

I think I got my money's worth out of it so far :)

You guys obviously know more about the higher end stuff to me. These things have always been simple tools or toys to me.

You can't get anything here for $35.

10x times easy to start.
