Final attempt with my dodgy rifle @ Springvale this Saturday

Post by Tomek » 25 Nov 2016, 3:22 pm

I'll be going in for my 3rd and final attempt to try my potentially dodgy CZ455 rifle. If anyone is going to be there, I'd love to let you have a shot.

Tonight I'll bite the bullet and check the bedding as many suggested. I don't like having to dissasemble something I bought new but will be good to learn :) I'll also remember to bring a screwdriver to the range to play with the action bolts. But if it's still bad, it's going back to the shop.

I tried 9 ammo types last weekend and mostly nothing. Strangely, the range's federal ammo shot well the first two magazines. After that I tried CCI and then, nothing worked. Elley club, sport, match, RWS, CCIs, Federals.. nothing. The Federal High Velocity ammo that seemed to be ok at the start actually become the most inaccurate. One of the supervisors also tried to shoot the Elley ammo and only got a 1.5 inch group. Interestingly, he also noted something I had initially brushed off. My 9x Athlon scope doesn't seem to be a true 9x. He commented that it's weird and that his 9x scope zooms closer. I will take photos to compare. Might have to return both scope and rifle!

Tomek,
Did you get a torx driver with your rifle? I did, with mine. And an Allen key.

I checked the bedding. It's all gritty, (yet still a floated barrel) but i couldn't find any shiny rubbed bits. The only thing left is to take it the range and play with the bolts.

And take comparison photos of the scope.

Make sure you put at least 20 rounds of a new ammo through before test for group size when you swap ammo. Strangely, every brand has different line and it can really effect accuracy when the bore has one brand lube on it with a new brand of ammo.

Makes no sense to me but seems to be the case in practice.

If anyone can get down there with a decent scope to let you try on it would really help sort it out, good luck.

Have you tried a diff scope on it by chance? would be worth trying to rule out the scope.

There's no way i can try a different scope unless someone there helps me. But the store checked it and said it was fine.

The parallax doesn't explain the massive groups i get. Although the not true 9x zoom is easy ground for a return. I look forward to today!

It's a shame you can't try another one mate just to eliminate it out of the equation - never mind, good luck with it all anyway.
