Marlin XT22 sight in distance

Post by pete1 » 26 Jun 2017, 5:15 pm

Ok so i brought a Marlin XT22 in 22LR brand new about a month ago being mucking round with it (open sights) now put a scope on and gotta sight it in.
Wondering what everyone thinks distance wise would be good to sight it in. of course start close and move further back.
Being talking to a bloke and he reckons at 100 metres ill get 6 inches of drop, would this be a fair judgement? Of course types and ammo will impact that.

Thanks

Sight in @50m
Sighting in any further and u will have lots of hold under at normal shooting ranges.
Most rimfire ranges are 50m also.
Sighting in at 50m will make hold over points for 75m and 100m quite simple.

50m - if you find yourself shooting at 100m just turn the elevation up to suit.
I've just come in from a big rimfire session - bloody cold out there.
Subsonic ammo (CCI Std Vel - 40gn 1080fps) zeroed at 50m is about 10-15mm high at 25m, 105mm low at 75m and 220mm low at 100m.
In my Bushnell 223BDC reticle at 18-power it's pretty close to the second dot at 75m and the third dot at 100m.
I wouldn't recommend shooting at live game past about 50m with .22LR though.
