Recommendations for nice, classic .22 LR

Hi guys, I will be selling my Savage mkii rifle to a friend, which leaves a empty spot in the safe for a new rifle! Problem is, I don't actually know much about .22's.

I would like to have a nice vintage, .22lr rifle, blued, with a beautiful timber stock and open sights. Basically I want a rifle that you would look at it and say to yourself "Now that's a classic" . Can you guys help with this?

I'm not into aesthetics at all, but the Brno Model 2 is a beautiful little rifle.

Im surprised the brno model 1 or a sportco hasnt been mentioned.

Personally i think any one of these fits your brief just nicely...

Lithgow model 12
Brno mod 1 or 2.

Imagine how many pallets of lead were released from these 4 beauties...!!!

Cheers Stix, I've had that little outfit since I was a teenager (long long time ago now) its a lovely little rifle to hunt with.

Another vote for a Model 2, personally I think an earlier one has a better stock shape towards the butt. People also say the pre CZ ones (1973/4?) are better quality. Any of them are much smoother than a Savage.

The poles made one. A WZ 48 or something like that. Can't remember the exact designation. Looks like an M44.

What about the norinco 22 Mauser 98's?
I haven't had the chance to shoot one yet but I reckon it'd be fun little plinker and bunny gun.

The Brno #2 on the first page looks impressive with lovely grain in the stock. Anschutz also make a 1710 Meister grade which uses a high quality figured walnut stock with a cheek piece and fine checkering, it would be a great rifle to pass onto the grandkids.

That Anschutz would be nice and shoot impressively too. Only I don't think they have any iron sights mine doesn't but its not that grade either still a nice rifle.

Anschutz model 1450 is another option. Simple cadet rifle. Easy for kids to learn on, classic rifle, won't break the bank if you can find one

You might be right but a truly beautiful rifle. A friend has one in 222 and it always causes a stir when he brings it to the range.

Euro- Brno, anschutz, sako or krico.
American - win model 69 or 75, lever 9422 or marlin 39a
Aust- Lithgow 12 or some sportcos.
Anything you pick will be a good solid well machined wood and metal rifle that will serve you well. Stick in the 1950’s to 70’s vintage and it will have some old school class. Buy the best condition one you can find and it will live for ever.
My choice would be Brno. Mod 2 or Lithgow 12.
