First Fox Hunt With The Thermals

Hi All

Last night, a friend took me out for a fox hunt on a property he has access to.

We'd been out once before trying to get them with 22LR's and spotlights and had a lot of near misses and a few gear-related issues due to lack of preparation...but managed to bag 2 in the end.

This time I had a thermal clip-on for the .223 and had it sighted in properly, and it made a huge difference!

We got 8 foxes in 2.5 hours, still had a few misses and a few that popped up right in front of us and piss-bolted before we'd noticed them. Great night overall.

If you're interested in watching the video and have any suggestions, I'd love your feedback on how to make it better/more engaging for viewers

Hi MG5150

I used to hunt foxes with my old Brn model 2 in 22LR, with the old red packets of Winchester powerpoint bullets. Foxes didn't like it thought. I knew I had a hit because you would hear the thud of the bullet hit.

I now hunt foxes with a Pulsar thermal on my 223. Better results.
If you can afford a decent thermal, I suggest you get one, they are truly a game changer when hunting.

Enjoy your hunting.

Just quick question, What distance was the first fox that went behind the mound in the video?

Do u both have thermals ? If so u can mount one on a shotgun. It’s a great way to get those quick up close surprise foxes u spoke of. I really love my thermal shotgunning for foxes. And the other person can shoot the long foxes with a rifle. I hunt solo so unfortunately if I take the shotty I can’t get the distant foxes that won’t come to the whistle

That's a great idea. One is mounted to the rifle, the other is a handhelf clip on. It's much easier to spot with the monocular and have a 2nd person on the lookout.

There are cheaper thermal cameras that you lug into your smartphone and can mount on a rifle, bow or shotgun for $300-$500. Might be worth getting one of them for future.
