So, I went out to a new property on Thurs 14th and Sat 16th to get a dog that's been killing sheep.
And as per usual those pesky dogs don't conform to any rule book other than their own.
Two full nights sitting out in frosty weather, and they don't turn up to face the firing squad.
On the first night however, a vixen turned up (10 PM) at the bait carcass, as wary as all hell, approached the carcass but never actually right up to it.
Then headed off, but stopped on its way out and sniffed one of my movement sensors further out in the paddock.
I let her walk, as I didn't want to upset the feral dog if it was in the vicinity.
Then, on the 16th I spent another frosty night out there, and the same vixen turned up at 10-15 PM .
(I have posted a comment some time ago about foxes following the same route at the almost exact same time each night)
Well, she was pretty much spot on time.
Still not wanting to spoil my chances of getting the feral dog by shooting,, if it were about,, I called out, and after looking in my direction it made a quick exit.
But then less than 15 mins later it came back again.
This time I called out again, and coughed loudly.
It walked about ten meters away and just sat looking in my direction,, and then approached the carcass yet again.
Then I got my green laser pointer and klicked it back and forth at it, and clapped my hands.
By then instead of heading off,,,, it just started tugging at the carcass and ignored me.
All the while, the movement sensor that was nearest to the carcass just kept flashing on the reciever next to me.
So in frustration I shot her.
She was in milk, so has cubs back wherever her den was.
