Afternoon all,

Anyone chased sambar around Toolangi state forest recently? If so, heavy going through the bush? Much deer sign? Any other advice?

PM if you don't want you 'tips' too public.

Pretty busy forest, wanna be careful where you hunt.
Very wet and steep.

Haven't hunted in it yet, but done a bit of 4wding out there.

Drive out there all the time, as others have said, busy, and yeah pretty narly stuff in most areas, if you have a 4wd there are some flat areas, but just have to be carfull, places you think are in the middle of no where have camp grounds round the corner

Hey wild goose, I was in toolangi not too long ago. Wasn't chasing deer just after anythING really, more if an armed bushwalk. Saw some bunnies and a fox as soon as we entered the forest, and saw a bunny on the way out too. Also saw some roos but that's about it.

As far as the scrub, it's very thick in toolangi and hard to find a good spot to get out and start walking. Further up is the black range state forest and that had some flatter areas with more clearing. While exploring the black range state foreat I found an area with many footprints and also what looked like bed down spots under shade/trees. Not sure what made it and wouldn't have a clue about deer hunting.

Also, if ur gonna head into there I definitely reccomend a 4wd... even the main road can be tough and when I was there by the time we wanted to leave a bloody tree fell on the main road (must have been within 1.5 hrs because the road was clear when we entered rhat section) and we were forced to take some rough 4wd tracks to exit the forest. .

I'm waiting for someone to develop one of those hydraulic pistons that are on the bottom of the bat mobile that come down and rotate you on the spot.
