Normally I just snap a pic and move onto the next pig but last night I had to drag a pig away from a cattle trough. When I first saw the three strange feet I thought deformity, Then I though due to this incredibly soft soil ( a lot of the time it’s like struggling through dry beach sand) that the toes aren’t wearing down naturally at the correct rate. I also thought possibly a result of chemically intense farming .... now I’m thinking some sort of dietary deficiency in combination with the soft non abrasive soil Never seen this before in my life. Shot two pigs like this last night Both sows. One was pregnant ( calcium deficiency when pregnant maybe ? ). One back foot on each pig was shaped normally. Seen this beforehand? What do u think?

Too much time in Sandy county or soft ground will do that.

Hooves and trotters grow. Wear and tear normally keep them at the right length and shape.

I've seen cattle with the same problem, they stand out from a mile away because they walk funny and look like they're wearing shoes.

Yep horses founder its a full time job cutting hoves back every couple of months. Cattle have similar problems but not as bad they mostly take care of themselves. But if you keep cattle for a long time you may have to get them attended to. $$

Pomemax. She is not the only one who cried. I shed a tear myself.

A lot of the problem causing these feet is they live on soft country ie swamp ,loam soils or soft soils even though its dry ,low flat country you'll most likely find animals living in hard country ie stoney country , shale, ridge lines or mountains will rarely have that problem that's why people with horses or any animal should keep a close eye on them for this hoof growth bad cases can dislocate hips or even cripple animals if left people like that horse owner should never be allowed to own any animal in my opinion
