Rabbit shooting with 17 HMR

Being awhile since I chased a few rabbits. Got the wife to drive me around the paddocks. Were definitely a few rabbits about for a change.

Was just using the CZ455 with Olight mounted on the scope. The rabbits weren’t sitting much and the Bushnell rimfire wasn’t so great for the close ones on the move. Minimum power 6X

What scope you using Cooper......?...
If my memory serves me correct its a Trophy Extreme 6-24x50 yes...?...

The scope i had on my 22 for eeons was a straight 6x40...for moving bunny's doing the hoppy stoppy hoppy stoppy at 30 yds it was ok,, but for the real close stuff (15 yds-ish) on 6 power when they're moving i find both eyes open is what works for me...one eye gives the feild of view you need while the other gives your zero & makes you a ninja...

But looks like you've got the Ninja thing down pat...

I have the Bushnell Rimfire 6x18 on my 17 HMR. I also have the 3x12 Bushnell rimfire scope (not on rifle at moment). It’s justd the close ones 15/20 metres that don’t sit that can be a bit difficult with minimum 6 power. I think minimum 3 or 4 power much more useful for close rang shots.

It’s also probably a bit easier if someone else is doing the spot lighting. The Olight javelot Pro is really good. But a bit too much light flood at close range. But Torches have come along way.

I’ve shot a couple of foxes and some more rabbits. Couldn’t get the pictures to upload. Will try again.

Yes Cooper...i bought the diffuser for mine when i bought the light--not that ive needed it yet, but figured ill get it for one day when (&if) the bunnies are ever really thick again, & i decide to go for a walk with the shotty at night for something different.

They have a sale on today, if you need other stuff get yourself the diffuser--they really do spread that beam out to act like a flood light for that close stuff...

I was lucky to get fox was heading back to house in back of Wife’s Hilux. Saw fox. Didn’t realise magazine was empty.

Lined Fox up perfectly. Pulled the trigger “Click.” Thought I’d chamber another round “Click”

Swapped mags. But when bolt close closed and mag full. Doesn’t click in properly. Mag fell out. Click again.

By this time fox about 150 metres away. Clicked mag back in. Chambered a round. Just aimed centre of fox as fox was on the move. Ran about 50 metres.
