Has anyone hunted deer with 30/30

Varminting and vertebrate pest control. Small game, hunting feral goats, foxes, dogs, cats, rabbits etc.

I think what bugman is saying is,
30-30 is about minimum and that distance and shot placement is paramount.

I would just use what you have and if you get keen later up grade to say, 270 or 30-06. Along with a few other popular cartridges. That's what I did.

I have only hunted deer a few times but on each occasion I had used a 270. Worked well for me, anyway.

The 30-30 has probably dropped more deer than nearly any other calibre over the last 100 years. She is popular overseas.

if you go into any north east deer camp there will be a 3030 in camp they work fine.
I love going to camp and seeing a 70 year old gun that has been in the same family.
it is not some thing thats a tack driver at 300 yard but its light to carry all day and at the range most deer are killed at its great.
my dads old 94 was the only rifle he had and shot deer in kentucky with it.
