Anyone eaten fox? (just asking)

Post by mahna » 15 Mar 2014, 6:38 am

A workmate asked me this and I had no idea... Has anyone eaten fox?

Forget your canned spaghetti when camping or anything and get desperate?

Probably doesn't taste great, but it's all just meat I guess?

There was a bloke from Mexico that use to eat it on the old fourm & I know a bloke out at one of my culling spots that isn't doing to well financially & eats that as well as a host of other road kill I won't mention. I normally grab him a few goats & deer every time I'm out there. Can't stomach him eating that other crap.

I was shooting with a bloke the other day and we got a couple of wild cats after we got home he said he was thinking about keeping them .
I thought for the skins , but he rather sheepishly said nah to eat ! Now I will tell you right now it doesnt turn me on , but he reckons they are
quite nice with sweet meat . I will have to take his word for it because I' not gonna find out , each to their own I suppose , probably better for
you than Maccas

It's all just meat I guess?

More our bias against something unfamiliar than anything wrong with it?

I know some Aborigines who live the traditional life they all say feral cat is tasty and good tucker, i guess compared to eating witchetty grubs it probably is alright.

They all reckon the tail is the best part of the kangaroo for eating.

I don't know anyone who has eaten fox.

I reckon that's right.

If you'd grown up eating fox instead of chicken you wouldn't bat an eye-lid at the idea.

Foxes are members of the Canid family.... they are dogs. Most humans do not/would not eat dog... or fox and if you've ever skinned one then you will never EAT one, and I would certainly never eat an animal that scavenges and eats aaaaannnnnny thing itself.

Predators sure. Cats, foxes, dogs etc.

The animals commonly in the human food chain are all grazers though.

Cow, sheep, goat, ducks etc. aren't scavenging corpses obviously...

Having said that chickens will eat just about anything, included their own eggs etc. And everyone loves chicken..

If they drop one out of the coop they will just leave it, they don't make any effort to move it or save it.

Later they walk past and there it is... Lunch.

I can tell you that I would sooner dig up a funnel web, skin it and eat it than gnaw on a fox. Having skinned heaps of them I can tell you that about the only animal that may have a go at a dead fox may be a goanna, although a pig isn't fussy. I've never seen a crow on a road kill fox either and they aren't fussy.

Eat a fox! .... Bllllluuuuuurrrrrrkkkkkk, I just spewed up everywhere just thinking about it!

I would rather drink my own fermented urine from a decomposing snake skin water bag than eat a fox!

When approaching this trapped fox.... from about 5m I started smelling the stench. Skinning increases the stench. You can NOT eat it.
