Recently when out at a particular location I saw a "dog" in the thermal, but it was way too far off to consider a shot.
Same thing the next night,, and the next,, and the next etc.
A week went by and I was getting pretty exasperated.

Finally I got a half decent chance, and squeezed the trigger.
I found it in daylight,,,,,,, only to find that it was a fox, and not a dog.

When lasered from where I took the shot, it was a tad under 300 meters.
Was pretty pleased at the shot placement.

The extra large bullet hole through the right ear had been done years ago,,, and was all healed up with fur growing on the edges.
I guess he just plain ran out of luck when it was my turn.

A bullet hole in my ear lobe would make me stay 300 away too.....good shot. Even tho it turned out to be a fox it still gave u a week of excitement thinking it was a dog in your sights .....years ago in Cecil plains I noticed a fox in daytime and casually ignored for about 30 seconds before my curiosity got the better of me so I raised my binos and confirmed it was actually a dog ..this raised my heartbeat...finally, the third thing to be raised was my mini 14

Looks like his luck just ran out , nice shot . I had one once that was zigzagging and wouldn't stop so I shot it with the swift whist moving only too see it pop its head back up again so I chest shot it . When I picked it up the first shot took off the bottom jaw and it got back up , weirdest thing to look at . It had a twisted gnarled back leg, and a bullet hole through its ear . When I skun it I found #4 shot pellets in it's hide and a broken but healing wrong, back leg . Tuff bastards but when you're number is up its up .
