Hi all, I’m new here and have just started trapping a few dogs just wondering if anyone on gets into it or just enjoys pushing little holes through them at speed

With experience you will avoid that.

Rule is to keep hands out of the trap fire and put hand under the pan when setting traps.

Yeah mate got that bit sorted or so I thought ? When I set the trap to fire she let go I’m not to fond of rubber jaw traps coz I can’t see the pan set properly I use WTS no3 traps the offset type not rubber but got 2 for $50 the other day couldn’t pass em up, what do you use mate?

We use a bit of everything and it depends on the situation as to what trap to use.
I use a lot of Jake's because of non target captures. Setting up your traps properly makes it easier to set them as they should all be the same.
Putting your hand under the pan as the trap is set helps make sure the pan is correctly set on some makes.

Check out the size of the equipment on this dog.
I've never seen anything that big on a dog with a body that size before.

Yes, all our dog's, foxes and cats are recorded onto a sheet that collects our data. We have many years of records from my staff.

Data collected includes - weight, sex, breeding status, condition, stomach contents, trap used, distance to lure, trap/nights, lure used, injuries, non target captures, visits and so forth. My zoologist is just about full time entering the data

Biggest dog that is dingo was 24kg.

Yeah, hear and see that all the time. One has cattle or not even any stock and causes problems to others.

Dog's do reduce kangaroo numbers. But it's total grazing pressure that determines stocking rates.

According to some, wild dog's cause the problem with sheep, not dingoes.

Yeah that’s different indeed, I get that every thing in the bush has a place but I also believe that when one overpowers the others it needs to be delt with wild dogs don’t make money cows and sheep do????

There’s a place I visit north of the dog fence. I hear dingoes howling there every second night .....the owners admit that they have a stack of dingoes and they know the dingoes do a good job of keeping the Roos down. They have only cattle not sheep and they often say I’d rather have dingoes than bloody Roos. There are absolutely stuff all Roos there so plenty feed for all their cattle
