Favourite type of wild dog trap?

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 19 Apr 2022, 5:53 am

G'day guys, the wild dogs are out of control here lately so I'm keen to get into trapping. A mate of mine has been showing me how he traps, but he uses western trap brand out of Toowoomba and they are currently sold out.

You blokes who trap, what brand and type do you prefer to use?

Bridger #5, Jake or Victor soft catch #3 all work well.

Alot of the wild dogs here are alot bigger and heavier than dingoes, would you say the Bridger no5 would be best on them?

I have caught big dog's on them all. The biggest dingo was 24kg. And caught plenty on #2 traps.

If your needing to have a bigger trap, they are either huge domestic gone feral or your trap set up needs work.

I'm a big fan of the WTS No,3 yeah they are a bit smaller but they have a quicker action and don't need anything added from new! i had a big male dog 20kg+ caught by 2 toes and held him for a while 5+ hrs till i got there, highly recommend giving them a lap, i use the offset laminate not the rubber jaw

not that one mate, but there's a few out there got 10 in 7 nights last week only to see at least 8 more on cam then (just my luck ) 4 inches of rain stuffed things up.
so now we play the waiting game for the ground to dry enough to get them back in
