A few less Vermin

Post by NukeBOMB88 » 11 Oct 2014, 6:12 pm

So me and my father decided to go have a look around the out paddock with the spotlight as we haven't seen any vermin on the main farm for the last few hunts . Well it's a good thing we did as in the first ten minutes of spotlighting we bagged a fox and two hares :D Here's a couple of pics of the fox

Yeah Tom, it seems like lately the foxes have been bigger than in previous years, am I the only one who has noticed this?

Yeah Scott , I'd reackon that having cubs to feed would put a huge strain on the Vixen

As you can see she's in fairly poor condition compared to others I've shot around here, she had a Magpie Chick in her mouth too so may well have been on her way back to feed the cubs?

Gee Scott, it was a skinny one wasn't it? I wonder how it managed to get the magpie chick out of the nest?

The little buggers climb the trees, mate. I thought I had a possum in the spottie the other week. Nope. Dirty, bloody fox 25 feet up a tree. Stared at the spottie for a while then bolted down the near vertical trunk. Was one of the oddest things I've ever seen. There's another tree fox on the farm. You only seem to see him when you don't have a rifle though

We had a lot of very big, old willow trees on my farm and used to see foxes going into and coming out of them. They would find a rotten hollow or a large fork in the tree that held lots of leaf litter to hold up in through the day. Can remember dad knocking one out of a willow with his Anshutz 22 mag.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Yeah mate she was in poor condition alright, more than likely as I said a result of pups? as for the Maggie, could have fallen out of the nest I guess, hard to say really what happened there.

Trick of the photo maybe, I thought it was some massive dog for a second when I saw the picture first.

Completely off topic here but I was watching a doco with David Attenborough on Polar Bears a while ago and it said the mother doesn't eat or drink for up to 8 months while she hibernates and feeds the cubs.

How the hell does that work :o

It's an amazing thing the Animal Kingdom, it's just amazing how they adapt to different situations.
