 :friends:

Haha... Yeah, tying flies to catch trout. There is a classic Tassy lake fly called 'possum emerger'. Never used it until I moved down here. It's quite effective in the right conditions.

Wallabies here in Tasmania are just about everywhere. You can't go driving on public roads and not find a poor one that got hit by a passing ute or see them flop through the forests here. I'd say its good that its legal to hunt wallaby, because the numbers are increasing and its looking like there's more pademelons than people

Better a bullet than getting half crushed by a bumper and going out over hours of being left on the road

True indeed. I hate seeing them like that, and worse off when they're poised by farmers and such because they don't want to go through the trouble acquiring a firearm. Absolutely disgraceful

A youngin, still in school! Are you from the country? Rare to find a city kid who shoots. I was in year 8 when I started shooting, coming from the city it was good bragging rights

More of a rural person really. It better because hunting grounds are a lot closer, and the fields are literally made of rabbits and wallabies instead of grass and mud.

And its easier to own a firearm on rural land too. Which also, I''ll admit again: I still don't technically own my own personal firearm yet (well duh, not old enough yet) but I do have a Junior's license coming in the mail for be to purchase ammunition and other goodies.

Speaking of which, I'm planning to convince the old man to pick up a cheap but well made single barrel Bioto shotty to go out wallaby shooting, alongside a .222, 17hmr or a good little 22lr. What's the best shotshell to use on wallaby? I ask this because I saw the damage on one when a friend of mine accidentally put in a slug-shell mistaking it for buckshot, creating a...rather unpleasant mess and wrecking a good hide. It didn't go to waste though, as the meat was still collected (from off trees in a 2km radius) and used as pet-food.

No. 2 shot or larger I'd say.

Haven't hunted wallabies but judging on size etc. that's what I'd use. IMO.
