What do you do with the dead pests you shoot?

Post by Mr.Seacucumber » 03 Apr 2016, 7:18 pm

So...

I was wondering what everyone does with the pests they shoot, mainly rabbit. Just abit curious to see how people get rid of them considering you really can't just leave them there.

Thanks :)

Rabbits I always try and head shoot, gut them and skin them and cos I don't eat meat give the meat away to family, sell a few or feed them to the dog. If you just leave them the foxes and birds soon clean them up. Foxes and cats I just leave where they drop. Goats, pigs and deer get the same treatment as rabbits, ie the meat is given to family and friends.

Pig will eat anything!

Yea a pig would be handy,

Before you give them to the dogs are you meant to gut and skin them?

I don't kill as much as you guys do, but I just put them in the trash. The company I pay to haul my trash won't take yard waste and won't segregate recyclable products but I can sneak a dead animal in there.

My buddy has a backhoe and some land if it comes to the point that I need to get a little mud on my boots.

The Bunnies I shoot are pretty much destroyed, I used to eat and sell the varmints but that was only when I shot them with the .22. Now I pick them up and dump in the bushes along one of the dirt roads a few ks from the property.

Throw them in a ditch that's what I did with this big female I shot Thursday. Some guys will hang them upside down off a fence post kinda like a trophy. It's spring here and the groundhogs are really hitting the hayfields. During this time I either have the 17 in my truck or an AR cause you never know when your gonna see one out in a field.

I don't shoot animals that much, but most get left in the paddock. Rabbits (if they're not too badly hit) can be skin for the dogs / cats, but otherwise I leave them and the foxes to the eagles. (Much better them picking at the dead foxes than going after the live lambs).

Here you get your trash taken away by the government in cities and boroughs. In townships (like small counties) or unincorporated areas you either pay to have your trash picked up or you get rid of it yourself. Rural areas. I had one friend that had to haul his own trash to a community dump in a sand pit. Where I live now, many people burn their trash, but most pay to have at least some of it picked up and hauled off.

Dog food and devil food... i don't leave them ion the paddocks because it can be a source of disease for my animals.

Considered getting a couple of pigs but i'm not keen on the bloody stench of them!

That's what my buddy does with whistle pigs ("ground hogs"). It's a burrowing animal usually 5 to 10 pounds.

If we shoot them on a dirt road we drag them out of the way, otherwise leave them where there shot. some roos we drag around behind the ute to conjure up wild dogs near camp. Don't eat any thing we shoot, would rather pie
