Kookaburras are the best birds to have around, they sure do clean up the snakes

Do you have names for them? I get Hooked Beaked Corellas in my yard, there's a pair now that will eat out of my hand and they'll actually come up to the screen door and peck at it to get my attention. I don't feed them all the time as I don't want them dependant, they need to find their own food but if the weather has been bad I'll put out a dish of seed for them. I'd love to have Kookaburras, very smart bird and quite entertaining to watch.

Kookas also listed as feral pest in Tas.

Were once cosmopolitan but have become resident and wide spread. Their native food source on the mainland is various reptile species but being that Tassie is so cold and availability of reptiles for a large portion of the year is scarce, they have taken to devastating the nests of other smaller, endemic bird species, there by putting the native/endemic species under unprecedented predatory pressure.

Still can't bring myself to shoot 'em but.

They are an amazing bird to watch up close. We had a "tame" one as kids, had a great time catching small lizards to feed it. Get a few here in the central west, not like the numbers on the coast though.
