Rabbit hunting in Melbourne

Post by Michael64 » 07 Dec 2016, 11:11 am

Hello hunters,

I'm new to the forum, I just got my first gun, a CZ 455 .22lr and I would like to hunt some rabbits.

How do I go about finding public land to hunt on?

I've asked around for private land but no luck yet sadly.

State Forest mainly - the light green areas.

No rabbits around down my way.
We had a few coming back but calici has killed them off again already.

As above, by far the best place to shoot rabbits will be on private property somewhere. However getting access can be hard.
I've seen rabbit warrens and rabbit droppings in state forest, but to this day I have not see a single rabbit in state forest. Do see the very occasional hare bolt out from scrub near me but always way too quick to get a shot off.
It'll shoot the fleas off a dog's back at five hundred yards, Tannen, and it's pointed straight at your head!

There are rabbits in Wombat forest but the vegetation makes them hard to spot, and when you do you have to be quick before the duck out of view. Check around old logging coups for droppings as they sometimes come out to feed on the short grass.

That's the new tyre-lici strain.

Doesn't always infect them but 100% effective when it does
