3 Head shot Bunnies with the .22WMR

Post by Elmer » 05 Jun 2017, 7:03 pm

Well it was time to take the little "mighty" .22 Magnum out of the safe for some rimfire sniping ,I chose a spot with Bunnies ranging from about 75yds to 175yds and settled the little sako quad hunter on bags across the bonnet of the Beast.
The first one was at 102yds, with the reticule nestled comfortably between his eye and ear I touched of a shot, sending the little Remington 40gn JHP on its way.
After the crack of the rifle I was rewarded with a whock as victim number 1 bit the dust, after skinning and gutting I settled in and waited for number 2.
Shortly after a robust buck presented itself at a mere 75yds he was already on ice,...Crack, whock and No. 2 received a JHP to the skull, he sure was an old battler with chunks of ear missing and a few scars across his nose .
Number 3 was a challenge, at 162yds with the sun just above the horizon and shining almost directly into my eyes I had to shoot with one hand and use the other to shield my eyes.
Anyway as Iined him up all I could see was his silhoutte , because of no wind I placed the reticule on his head and touched off the shot, about half a second later No 3 dropped like a sack of s**t from a JHP landing between his eye and ear...glad I filmed it, a good shot for a WMR.
With a accurate Ballistics chart and rifle the WMR gives the HMR some healthy competition (with more energy as well), I have been shooting this cal since 85 my first rifle was a Krico 352 deluxe and it could put 5 into 1 inch at 100yds which back then was outstanding accuracy for a WMR.
I will be shooting the rimfires more (kinda miss them) and this weekend will be another WMR vid, and soon I will dust of my sako finnfire (bought it back in 1999) for some .22lr sniping, should be a lot of fun
Anyway I hope you enjoy the vid
cheers,
Sean.

#1 bunny. Do you think one of those blades of grass would have deflected the bullet at all?

Nice shooting! That 162 yard shot is quite incredible, especially under the circumstances.

There's some memories. 22 mag used to be my go to for rabbits and foxes. That extra range and energy is pretty nice to have up your sleeve

Looks like there are a few stalks in the way that's all. Theory is that if you inadvertently hit one on the way to the target, then the bullet will be deflected.

The ear on No2 looks like he had a close shave previously.
Never ceases to amaze me how many bunnies I've seen in the past with ears that have been split by a bullet, and healed.

Nice shootin as usual Sean.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

No wind?

The flat as you zoomed out on the first one was going crazy.
