Are suppressors legal in Australian in special circumstances

Post by horter » 28 Nov 2013, 4:41 pm

G'day guys,

Bit of a long shot here I suspect but if you don't ask...

Are suppressors legal in Australian under any special circumstances? Like if you had a medical condition and risk of damaging your hearing further or anything like that?

Not for myself, I have no need for one. A mate of mine has hearing issues and is keen on coming for a shoot but a little worried at the same time.

Just got me thinking was all.

No where sells them here at all as far as I know? But I wondered if you could import them with a permit and medical certificate or something along those lines?

Just curious...

Ear plugs plus ear muffs might help.

Yep.

If he's got hearing trouble his options are conventional hearing protection or not shooting.

I've read a few things about people chipping away at the edges of the legislation for them, but no inroads being made AFAIK.

Lots of other/easier challenges first I guess.

I figured that was the case but oh well.

He'll have to live with a double layer of ear buds and ear muffs I guess.
