Firearm storage NSW

Post by TheMuel » 08 Sep 2021, 7:24 pm

G'day all,

Chasing some clarification...

I'm wondering if I hold Cat A/B licence can a mate store his firearms at my place in my safe if his is full?

Is he able to submit a PTA and acquire the firearms registered to my address?

I don't currently have any firearms registered to me so my safe is empty.

Cheers

They don't need to be registered to your address, he just needs to list your address as his storage address.

Absolutely correct. Same as if he friend asks you to store their firearms whilst they are away for a few days or more. The powers that be must be notified of such an arrangement and also when the firearms go back to the owners home. I had to do this when travelling overseas for a lengthy period.

I thought I read in one of the fact sheets that you only had to notify them if it was going to be for longer than 14 days that you stirred at another address

Probably correct however I was away for 2 months overseas, on a number of occasions, but it is better err on the side of caution, I guess.

Also make sure that your mates firearms don't exceed your licence or safe categories, say by storing a Cat C,D or H in your Cat A/B safe.

And also that they don't cause you to exceed the number of firearms you're allowed to have at your level of security - down here firearm number sixteen requires a security system.

Queensland does not require alarms but once you have more than 30 A,B,C,D or 30 H firearms then you have to get a vault or a storeroom. So you can have 30 pistols and 30 longarms. That is a fair few guns and would require a few safes.
