My GF works at queens bond here’s the scoop.

Covid saw a reduction of staff at the NFR by two people one of those was the guy who specialises in dealer B709 forms etc so remaining staff had to take on that work load.
Covid panic saw a dramatic increase on new applications by hundreds if not a couple grand obliviously that’s going to push waiting times back.
The dashboard is updated Wednesday evening , queens bond have their ( back end )system linked in to update stock arrivals from customs for pick up for local dealers.
I’m in the same boat 10 months waiting but also have resigned from being annoyed or frustrated as it’s pointless, just think of the current situation as something similar to a bricklayer placing 5 bricks a day on a house.

The registration process is like watching a time lapse of crabs eating a whale.

I've submitted an application via Myservices but how come when I checked under "my applications" it says I don't have anything? I did receive the email confirming my application payment though.

That's normal. I had the same thing. I understand that Service NSW and the Firearms registry systems are not linked. You should get a letter from the Firearms Registry in about a week or two confirming receipt of your application. This document also shows the licence number you will have, if approved

So in 2 weeks we'll receive physical letter confirming receipt of application, then just wait for another 6 weeks or so for approval if we are approved?
Do they send letter for declined application as well?

Yes, you will receive a letter confirming receipt of application. If you read back through the posts in this thread you will find I posted the timeline of my applications for probationary pistol and Cat A/B but I think it was about 3 months to have in hand. However, you will see some people on this forum have waited a year, so it really depends on your individual background and circumstances. No idea what happens if your application is declined.

Thanks I'll wait then. hopefully not too terribly long.
Did you apply for A B and H at the same time?

I already applied for AB and planning to apply for H next month. I wonder if multiple class applications would prolong the application time

My partner lodged his cat A&B licence on the 31st January 2020..... it’s now the 3rd Feb 2021!!!!!

He has been waiting for over 365 days!!!! And it’s still not done. He has rang up multiple times and just got the same answer as everyone else. It’s in the pile.. what a f*cking joke.

No, I applied for the probationary pistol licence a couple of weeks later but it seems both were processed at the same time because I received both together. I think the pistol one took 42 days

Oh ok.i have applied for my A and B a couple weeks back but won't be able to apply for cat H until maybe 6 weeks from now.

I hope when I apply for my cat H, it doesn't "reset" my A and B application back to bottom of queue.

If memory serves me correctly, that is the day I applied for my Cat A/B as well. It clearly wasn't in the same pile as mine was.

Rang the Far today and the nice lady said my license was being referred to Service NSW for license approval ! She said that 16,000 new license applications were made in 2020 in NSW . Still might be 4 more weeks till I get the letter ! And minimum 6 weeks wait on a PTA !

Renewed club membership somewhere in-between
13/2/21 (Sat) 110 days later referred to SNSW for photo
19/2 (Fri) letter arrived
19/2 photo taken

now waiting for status to update

The published stats tell a story - average processing times have been going up every month since September, possibly after a big spike in applications in July that they haven't caught up with?
https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/as ... _Dec20.pdf

Not improving so far this year either...

My ppl took around 100 days or so, cant remember exactly, but my full cat H was received on 7/12/2020 so I’m half way based on past experience. Also ended up with a new license number. Ppl has now expired but the new license number says ppl authority continues.

4 months isn’t too bad. Mine was around 7. FYI for PTA’s, it has taken me around 2 weeks from application online to arrival in mail. I’m in Sydney metro. 3 days for application to show online, 4 days to be approved and then 1 week to deliver. It says allow 7 to 10 business days for mail but more like 5 or 6 business days for me.

Yep not bad seeing how long some have taken. My PTA’s are subject to the 28 day cooling period so not expecting any progress there for another month, but at least I can start shopping now...

Sorry to hear it still hasn’t come through. The thing that annoyed me too was that pricing of everything went up while I was waiting. Now ammo is in shorter supply too. Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

Just wondering, does adding additional license type means "resetting" your current application wait time?
I applied for my A&B around 2 months ago and by end of this month, I am eligible to apply for my cat H pistol license. If I applied for H say end of March, will take make my A/B back to the bottom of processing pile, or is it two separate things altogether?
ie. you might receive your A/B say in 4 months, and H say 2-3 months after you got your A/B?

It’s been another month since I spoke to the FAR , they said my license was basically approved but it would probably be another 4 weeks . Well she was right about that , let’s see if this week it arrives. Patience it’s only been 4 months when it’s only supposed to take 28 days by their rules !

The paperwork pile at NSW FAR is strange indeed

13/01/2021 tokok test and applied for catA/B Hunting/ hunting other (SSAA membership & RHVC form. Not just the one reason)
25/02/2021 received form advising approval and photo required
01/05/2021 photo taken at lackofserviceNSW
05/03/2021 received license in less than the 10 days specified.
not sent PTA through, as the card arrived well before i expected it.

It may be due to your name. My name is "rare" if you could say such a thing.

If you have a common name "john smith" etc, and another John Smith has been convicted of an offence, they will dig deeper to make sure it ins't you.
I was expecting to wait 6 months, but am surprised the whole process took just over 2.
